2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

We've already got Kris Dunn to do that stuff. Castle is 4/18 (22%) on 3PAs in the tournament. He's not going to get on the floor til he fixes that.
Your dislike of Castle is out of control. Also Dunn is a free agent and 30 so I don't see the point in bringing him up at all. We are arguably the worst defensive team in the league and Castle would most definitely see rotation minutes immediately.

I do not think you want to argue that we don't need any more help on defense.

Jazz want size, length and defense, sure, but they aren't going to draft a non-shooter inside the top 10. They just gift-wrapped Nickeil and Ochai because those guys weren't consistent enough from the perimeter.

Not wanting to draft a 2-guard who shoots under 28% from 3 isn't hate. It's discernment. And it's not that he isn't making shots, it's that he doesn't even want to shoot them.

Sure his shooting is a concern, but dismissing his defense because "We've already got Kris Dunn to do that stuff", is not a valid take for the worst defensive team in the league.

Purdue was the #2 three point shooting team in the nation due to everyone double and triple teaming Edey leaving the rest of the team wide open. UConn played him straight up and had Castle lock down the three point shots. Purdue only made one three pointer on only six attempts.

Oh Castle still had 15p/5r/3a/1s too

Castle just has a lot of what the Jazz need. Add in the mentality and attitude and it's very easy to like him. Any fanbase is always happy to get a guy like that on their team, dissenting opinions aside.

Believing you can lock him in a gym and get him average at shooting seems like a much better bet than some other guys in this draft. Nothing looks broken mechanics wise to me.

Castle has bust potential directly related to his inability in and lack of confidence in his shot. It would not be surprising if he just never can develops a shot - more than half off all players never do. I don't know how you can predict that. I would take him outside the top ten.

That’s a kid that wants to win… bet on him.

Thank you. Yes, he's draftable, but he's not a top-5 guy. The NBA is just a different game.

The Jazz are currently tanking on purpose, and any team that plays multiple rookies is going to be bad defensively. The entire roster that's playing games right now is going to be changed. Earlier in the year, the Jazz had a lineup with Kris Dunn, Collin Sexton, Walker Kessler, Lauri and Simone that was actually very good defensively. That's the team that came back and beat the Bucks and beat OKC.

The Jazz don't care right now. Nothing is set other than that the Jazz have an opportunity to use their hard-won lottery picks to draft solid starters with high ceilings. They draft guys with positional size/length who can shoot. Yes, they want everyone to defend, but look how quickly they've moved on from guys who aren't at least league-average shooters.

Post NCAA Tournament Big Board:

1. Nikola Topić
2. Alex Sarr
3. Reed Sheppard
4. Stephon Castle
5. Matas Buzelis
6. Isaiah Collier
7. Ron Holland
8. Dalton Knecht
9. Zaccharie Risacher
10. Cody Williams
11. Rob Dillingham
12. Donovan Clingan
13. Ja’Kobe Walter
14. Kyle Filipowski
15. Jared McCain
16. Tidjane Salaun

Cody Williams attempted fewer 3 pointers a game than Castle.

He made more too. 0.7 to 0.6 per game (1.7/2.2 attempts respectively)

That is very little to have any major takeaways.

The Jazz were a bottom 5 defense well before they started tanking.

Collins at the 5 is a problem, especially when the Jazz play small or non-defensive guards. Kessler lineups defend better than this. Clarkson is probably moving on this summer.

Here is a list of guys the Jazz have moved on from, primarily because they didn't shoot league-average:
** Ochai
** THT--they tried to trade him, but couldn't find a deal
** Nickeil
** Vanderbilt
** Bolmaro
All of those guys are solid defensively and have some intangibles. It's just a cold reality that players who don't make enough shots don't play.

Edit: I wouldn't read too much into Nickeil, since the Jazz were chasing that Lakers pick, but Vanderbilt was already out of the rotation.
