2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

A draftee competes against his own draft and the previous two drafts and the next two drafts - in terms of expectations versus results. The likelihood of busts is high for many of the selections.

Yeah, we keep hearing "This is a bad draft," but it usually doesn't mean much. History has shown there are stars and great players in every draft, and with a very few exceptions, we don't know who they are until a few years after the draft as you said.

We want to be good when we start getting the swaps. Get the top pick maybe speeds things up a year. We don't want to trade Lauri but it is not absolute. If we are given a stupid good offer I think we trade him. We are in a mediocre spot for next year's draft. We won't tear it down proactively over the summer but we will be willing to trade anyone for value. We will probably be semi competitive and trade away a couple of key plays at next year's trade deadline and hope for a miracle - with three picks who knows.

I think getting Sarr would have the same impact as getting Hendricks. A solid hopeful player that may turn out really good. There may be two to three impactful players in this draft with a ton of busts, bench players. I am afraid if we don't get number 1 then we won't know what we have until next year. That uncertainty probably would freeze the decision making a little.

That being said this logic all changes if Danny can snag a couple of stars during the summer when he is big game hunting.

Not to be reductionist, but pretty much any and every kind of player can play in the playoffs/be exposed. It does often come down to performance, especially with the role players. For example, the defensive specialist guys (McDaniels, Dort, Okoro, DJJ etc) are constantly on a knife’s edge alternating between indispensable and a liability depending on if their shot is falling.

I still think the Jazz should select whoever we think is the best player regardless of archetype. This is especially true given that we are so far away from the playoffs/competing in the first place. Some archetypes are still better/more versatile than others, but I would caution getting ahead of ourselves.
 
Zvezda is playing in about 2 hours time for the ABA league. No idea if Topic will play but I plan on taking a look at the game while waiting for the lottery.

scratch that... the game is tomorrow it seems.
 
Looks like Garwey Dual played well in the GLeague scrimmage. He was complete *** when I was watching that UConn game and was all season, but maybe there’s something there. I know some here were excited about him at one point.
 
It’s at this point I forget the math and immediately feel it’s unfair when we don’t move up.
