The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

Ehh, I might believe him. There just aren't a lot of great landing spots for him with Brunson taking over NYC. Does he really want to go to Brooklyn and be the afterthought team in New York? He's probably going to get a lot of input on Cleveland FO moves and who gets hired as the HC
Miami and LA say hi. SA too.

If he wants to win then be Wemby's sidekick. If he wants lifestyle, more money, etc. Miami LA. If he wants to go home then its Brooklyn but that doesn't seem like a fun place. All he has to do is say he won't sign the extension with any team other than those three and he gets to those places. Unless Cavs can get something for Garland/Allen that makes him excited to stay I am not sure hanging around with Mobley in Cleveland is an amazing situation.

I think there is like a 30% chance he decides to take the extension and maybe its because the knee is a bit more concerning long term so he wants to lock in. I think Cleveland is a clear 4th option to those 3.

In a hypothetical where Mitchell re-signs in Cleveland and they decide to make Garland available, they wouldn't really be interested in their own picks that much and want to improve. But man, I'd be excited to bring Garland in next to Lauri.

Convince them that Collins is somehow their solution to the Allen/Mobley logjam, Donovan needs his guy Clarkson back, and throw them some of their picks back and we cooking. They're not, not we are.

No

I think ego plays a large role at this point. He wants a larger market with more sparkle than SLC/CLE.
I'm sure he hates DA for shuffling him off to the Cavs rather than being able to force his way to NYC.

Definitely not something Donovan considers in his cards. The others for sure. May be bitter about being in the shadow in Brooklyn.
Depends... might be his best real chance at a title. Also will provide a bigger spotlight as Wemby is the next big thing. I mean he may not want to be Pippen but would you rather be Drexler than Pippen? Also has the no state income tax thing.

My prediction is Miami or LA. Him and Bam are besties... in the East he can still get into the playoffs and make a run. South Beach. No state income tax. LA has the biggest stage and platform but aging stars so their window is now.

I think Don tells Cleveland he won't sign the extension and then the bidding war between Miami and LA starts... maybe an outside team like NO says they will just call his bluff next year and beats their offer. Miami and LA can both put together okayish offers.

That it may be, but I think personal branding far outshadows that. Even think of all the other guys with 50th %ile egos who any given year could become the missing piece to a franchise that makes them favorites to win it all but they almost never make these choices. Now insert someone with a significantly higher percentile self image and those kind of theoretical never really register on a true radar.

“No, no, no, no… it’s not what I want… it’s what he wants.”

Again I think it depends. Does he really think he wins a title in Miami with Bam or in LA with AD and Lebron? Cuz the title helps the brand/legacy. He also might be the leading scorer on that team even with Wemby... so its a little different than a true second banana maybe.

I just think even SA is a better situation than Cleveland. And there might be some real leverage there as SA can sign him next year. LA/Miami wouldn't have space. Not that it matters that much. I think they could outbid both of those teams and Don might sign the extension there... maybe he asks out later. Maybe his ego destroys Wemby.

I think we know this. Does he?

I don't think he is delusional. He can be a lot of things but I think he is intelligent and has some measure of self-awareness.
If he had that kind of self awareness, he’d have ensured making much more of his time here (he obviously accomplished a ton but it was front-loaded and plateaud when he mentally checked out).

It was also his first team and he was in his early 20s. Playing on a second team in a new environment gives him an important perspective.

He had a decent chance of a title in Utah, maybe 5he best chance he will get, and he played crappy defense to prove a point. Let's not pretend he is laser focused on a ring.

Ehh, idk. Donovan has stuck to the same script. He doesn't want to force his way anywhere it seems. He might not want to be where he's at, but he's not comfortable for whatever reason asking to go to a singular place.

If I had to guess, I think Donovan wants to go to Miami to play with Bam and compete during the final years of Jimmy Butler's deal.

Well you may be a few weeks early in the cycle with that observation. I thing the Don is chafing a bit at keeping things with the Jazz FO on the down low and won't play quite so nicely this time.

FWIW, I'm not a Garland fan. At all. Dude gets hunted by defense all game long and is ****ing addicted to his floater.
