Max Out Matthews?

We need Matthews. He's the missing piece.

Exum/Burke
Matthews/Burks
Hayward/Hood
Favors/ (mobile big who's cheaper than Booker so that we can afford Matthews)
Gobert/ Pleiss

Our starting lineup will be elite on defense.
Our bench will have the twin chuckers in Burks and Burke. Combined they will have the offensive firepower to destroy opposing teams' benches.
And this is all next year.

The year after that we pray that Exum makes a huge jump and we are contenders :)

Definitely need another starter who can shoot 3's. Either Matthews or Carroll would fit. And we've already signed Burks so he can come back as the 6th man - no problem. Trey needs to go. He and Alec could not co-exist off the bench.

Matthews suffered what seemed like a serious injury in tonight's game vs Dallas.

Portland's Wesley Matthews on his way to MRI, with Blazers holding significant concern about seriousness of lower leg injury.

It looks like an Achilles tear.

Well, that sucks... Could that make him easier to get, though? And do we want him if it turns out the injury is serious?

Return to play after an acute Achilles tendon rupture may take 6-9 months in an active, healthy young athlete. Of course, as with other serious sports related injuries, recovery may take longer, and there is no guarantee that performance will recover to the pre-injury level despite aggressive and conscientious management and rehabilitation.

Depends on the tear I guess... but yah... 6 to 9 months...

Anyone ever recovered from that injury? Only one I can think of to come back to play at a high level is Demaryius Thomas, but that's an entirely different sport.

The list of NBA players who have ruptured their Achilles tendon includes Isiah Thomas (arguably never the same afterwards), Dominique Wilkins (as good as ever by some assessments) and Elton Brand. Probably more people in Philadelphia watched Ryan Howard become injured on the way to first base during the NL division series against St Louis in 2011.

Kobe had Achilles tear in 2013, too.

The thing is... a lot of Matthews game does not depend on elite athleticism, so he might do good after his return.

Wonder if he'll get any offers at all. Jazz need to swoop in and offer him a decent amount for 2015-16 with the knowledge he may not play and then a couple of team options for the following 2 years (in case he doesn't recover).

He will definitely get offers.

say bye bye to this thread. he ruptured left achilles tendon. out for the season. We don't need to max him now.

****... That sucks. He just lost like 30 to 40 M....I wonder if they have insurance for that?

He will still get offers and he will be back. He's a hard worker... He just got a lot more gettable.
