A bit misleading, but as I read the article, Tomic knows that the last train to the NBA is leaving and he doesn't want to miss it.
I interpret this to mean that he wants to leave Barca for the NBA and Jazz.
Does his current team have the option not to accept the buy-out from the Jazz? The article seems to imply this as well.

They quote an old Walter Perrin interview (7 or 8 months ago, before the season began) in which he said that the Jazz were assessing whether or not to pay his buyout. They also speculate about Pleiss and that both Tomic and him might end up playing together for the Jazz in 2016.
Read the comments section. Most Barza fans described him as soft, one guy called him "sweet little pear" (go figure), other questioned his fire, that he lacks balls, his physicality. Most agreed he should be decent on offense but will be eaten alive on defense.
His contract is up at the end of the season so it makes sense for him to come over now. He is already 28 (not on the article).

I never saw Tomic as our 3rd or even 4th big. I think he'll lack strength to play in the NBA. Even Pleiss is stronger than him by the looks of it. Also Tomic will demand $$$ to come over. Just too much distraction to really bother.
Bring Pleiss over if you must, but I'd rather look at the draft for a future 3rd/4th big.

I wonder if trading for Pleiss was a tactical move to make Tomic come to the NBA.

Probably reaching there, but who knows what is going behind closed doors in the FO. I think they realize that next year we need to at least make the playoffs, and we still are a piece short from it looking like a lock on paper. Adding Tomic means we are set with the bigs, and can go after a shooter in FA or the draft.
