Following potential 2015 draftees

If we draft Dekker with Turner, Kaminsky and Oubre still on the board I'd be shocked...

Me and a bunch of fellow Jazzfanz would have a conniption if we took Dekker over Turner. Also, I would be shocked if one of our 2nd rounders isn't a Euro stash as our roster is almost set and there are a bunch of intriguing foreign players showing up in the mocks.

If I had to guess, I would think the Jazz really like Hezonja, Porzingis and Johnson, and they hope one of them slips or that they can move up a few spots to snag one of them. Johnson is the most likely candidate to slip to 12.

I think they probably like Turner, Oubre and Booker well enough, but aren't over-the-top excited about them. They are only incrementally better than guys available later in the draft.

That's just me guessing.

Completely agree.

I think the Jazz want somebody in that second tier (picks 5-10). Moving up 2-4 spots to get one of the Euros or Johnson is my desired outcome. I'm guessing we would have to give up Burks or Hood.

Best case scenario imo is Turner falling to us. No assets given up and we're in the situation where we can afford to take a risk.

Does anyone on here prefer Dekker? He's the one option that I'd actually be upset about.

From what I've noticed, the Jazz seem like Trey Lyles a lot. He's a stretch 4 and might get picked at 12. I agree, it's not a sexy pick. He might be even available at 16 if they do trade down. lol

"Stretch big" doesn't mean someone that literally appears to be stretched. Because you can't be saying that a guy that shot <20% on threes is stretching the floor.

It matters. It matters a lot.

Which is why I'm saying the Jazz should trade down and have some other team select him before the jazz do. I have this gut feeling the Jazz go for him at 12. I like the 16th pick and maybe go for Hollis-Jefferson which I like for his defense and hustle.

Here's an article about how Kaminsky fits with the teams in the 10-14 range:

The part about the Jazz:

#12: Utah Jazz

Another team in need of a stretch big man is the Utah Jazz, as they look to be committed to the future of Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert, two players who work best around the rim. Kaminsky could pair with either of these big men and would seem work perfect in the Utah Jazz offense. The two man pair of Gobert/Favors had a 4.7 net rating in 857 minutes, mainly due to their defensive rating of 96.2, and substituting Kaminsky’s offensive skill for one of those players could take it to the next level and make the front court rotation that much better for the Jazz.

One side effect of having Kaminsky on the court is how much space it will open up for dribble penetration for the Jazz. As you see in the screen below, having both Gobert and Favors on the court together can compact the defense and make the Jazz easy to guard. The Jazz ranked last in effective field goal percentage on shots after 3-6 dribbles, caused by a lack of spacing to the rim and a lack of outlets surrounding the drivers.

The frame below shows an example of this, as Hayward is looking to drive after a dribble handoff from Gobert. Marc Gasol has dropped almost all the way to the rim, as Gobert is no threat from the mid-range, while Derrick Favors is also constricting the space. Swapping Kaminsky here for Gobert, who would then pop out to the three point line, would open up the floor a ton and give the Jazz multiple options offensively.

Utah has two excellent rim protectors to support Kaminsky in Favors and Gobert, making Kaminsky an excellent player to pair with either big man. The Jazz forged their identity on defense this season and were the best in the league after the Kanter trade. Kaminsky may struggle on defense like Kanter but his effort level should be higher, which will help the team continue to be tough defensively, despite the drop-off in defensive skill level to Kaminsky. The Jazz will be looking to build on their second half momentum and Kaminsky may be the player who can contribute right away as they make their playoff push.

More on the rumored OKC promise to Cameron Payne at #14...

"According to Chad Ford of ESPN.com, there is growing buzz among rival general managers that OKC has made a promise to Murray State point guard Cameron Payne with the 14th overall pick.

It wouldn’t be the first time the Thunder has agreed to an arrangement before the draft. In 2011, there was some chatter that the team promised to select Reggie Jackson with the 24th overall pick. Sure enough, the Thunder selected Reggie Jackson with the 24th overall pick. Last year, the Thunder arranged a deal with Josh Huestis, agreeing to select him 29th overall if he spent the year in the D-League. It was the first ever domestic draft-and-stash."

Interesting. Believe or not, Cameron Payne is high on the Jazz list as well. Funny, I always thought Jerian Grant would be a great fit for OKC.

Draft him and extort OKC like the 76ers did with Orlando last year. They got a first and second rounder to drop only 2 places in the draft by picking Payton.

My issue with Dekker is that he's not that compelling as a 3 and he's not really compelling as a 4 either. He's kind of a Schrempf or a middle-class Rudy Gay.

Lyles is a legit 4 and could be a lot like Al Horford if the defense is there. He's not that great out on the floor though, and that's why I like Portis a bit better for the Jazz.
