Utah Jazz vs Lakers Emergency Game Thread

So how was russell in the second half?

I have been saying all along...... With lyles, it will all depend on him being able to shoot consistently at a good percentage to whether or not he was a good pick. Very happy to see him finally hitting some three balls.

Much love to one love for carrying this thread! Thanks bro

Russell was quite good. He kept his team in the game as they made a comeback to cut the Jazz's lead to 2 pts. He can make 16-18 ft jumpers easily off PNR play. That's how the Fakers got back in the game in the 4th quarter.

Thanks bro, appreciate it :)

Another guy who really jumped out to me at Vegas (that didnt on TV as much) is Jared Cunningham #74. I think he's played his way into the league.

he also got a little flustered with Cooley who kept yelling "channel channel channel" too soon on the defensive sets. He finally started telling him "too soon man, c'mon!"

Haha.. did you have court side seats?

I noticed Cunningham during the Salt Lake summer league and first couple of Vegas games, too. O'Brien also came on late, IMO. Just don't have as many of those end of roster spots like the Jazz have had in the past. Ingles and Millsap claimed a couple. It would take a really impressive performance in SL and training camp to push Elijah off the roster. I think Cotton is a given, too. So it really comes down to Cooley, Jerrett, Johnson and anyone else for the last roster spot. The odds aren't good.

If Cunningham could pass the ball better or defend better, then he would already be in the league. For all his athletic ability to he isn't a very good defender.

I did not realize it, until they mentioned it, that he was a first round draft choice(#24) by Cleveland in 2012.

LOL Yeah, I heard that too. It was funny. Maybe that was the reason why we never saw much of Cooley in the 2nd half and a lot of Cunningham though. That reserves dunk he made was sick! It was pretty bad@ss.

The one summer league game I probably would have been interested in seeing a bit of and it doesn't look like they replayed it. Funny.

Oh well, the quality of summer league is awful, and it's hard to watch the games. I get why people watch it, though it reminds me of stoners scraping their pipes for resin or drunks raiding the pantry for vanilla or the bathroom for Scope. I feel the same way about preseason football. Preseason basketball is actually not too bad to watch though, since the regular players seem to get a decent amount of minutes.

Cotton is shooting 35% in SL!!! THIRTY FIVE PERCENT! In Summer League! Lets stop acting like he's some can't miss talent! And to add to it - he was destroyed on D by all NBA-level PGs he faced. Russell, Rozier, Clarkson, Smart all had their way with him. He can't fight through screens, he gets stuck and opponents are left all alone in the mid-range with variety of option on their disposal, he can't contest shots and they all shoot over him both on jumpshots and on their way to the rim.

He's a fun player to watch, but he's a borderline NBA player. I wouldn't be shocked or upset one bit if he didn't make the team...

Over react much? No one is saying hes an all star but clearly he deserves a spot on someones roster. hes good enough to help someone in a back role. every commentator ive seen
likes him. do we absolutely have to take him? no. but we should take a long hard look at him in pre season, and see if he out plays Burke.

Its a lot better now than when it was in Orlando. At least their are fans, and it feels more like a real game. There are plenty of highlights on You Tube if you just want to see a little bit from our guys. This last game had quite a few highlights both ways. I liked the way we held off the Lakers every time they tried to make a run.

One of my observations of the game and other Jazz summer league games as well is that someone needs to tell these youngsters that you never stop your dribble unless you have a shot or a pass. It is just stupid how many times we get double teamed and lose the ball, because we stop our dribble without someone to pass to or without having a shot.

I think if Lyles can hit that 3 point shot like that during the season it will open up his drive for the pull up jump shot, lay up or kick out pass to the three point line shot. He looked like he knocked the rust off of his game. Motum sp.? made me cringe every time he came on the court. No way he makes the team.

A PG is also only as good as the players you surround him with. Cotton didn't have much to work with, no one was respecting the range on most of his wing players. And at 6' tall isn't going to beat a lane of clogged defenders even with his athleticism. Another words...what the **** do you want him to do? He has made the team.

Heard guys on NBA radio talking about Randle and backing up what I thought I saw. In college he could bully people with his strength, in the NBA it won't work. Here's hoping the Lakers have a bust on their hands.

But can he play the three? Is he hungry?!?!

A lot of good things have been written or said about him. But he ain't growing any. I do expect he'll work on his shooting, or die trying, knowing him. But yeah, 35% sucks. Pretty disappointing. And the backcourt is crowded. I wouldn't mind seeing him with "the made guys" on this team. He isn't the starting point guard, but I wish he had done a little better with his role as starter in SL. He may be better off as a FA or traded to a team more in need of a pg. There's no shortage at pg with the Jazz at the moment.

Don't get me wrong - I wouldn't mind if he made it on the team, but people are acting like he'll be integral part of that team, some are suggesting he'd be our long-term back up, there were even some suggesting he should start. For me he's a 3d PG in the league and I wouldn't mind him being on the Jazz as 3d PG, but I also wouldn't be upset if he didn't make it.

Remind me again how Trey Burke did in SL...
