Summer 2015: FIBA games of Utah Jazz players

"90-57 victory!
And do not worry, if I do not play, I have just been put in rest by the staff for the game tonight.
We did get the win and don't worry, it was a staff decision( before the game) to get me some rest, cuz next game is this sunday!" - Rudy

Sounds like Gobert is fine and just taking the day off.

We all know why Gobert did not play today. It is because he did not want to play against the mighty Fes. Fes did have a good game in the losing effort.

Pleiss 7pts 7 rebounds in 17 minutes, but only 3/9 from the field.

19 rebs in 35 minutes in the last two for Pleiss. Led the team in rebs both games. I'm okay with that.

Well he is 7'3. He kind of should be leading the team in rebounds every game.

A big knock on him before this offseason was that he was a garbage rebounder though in the Euroleague. This is 100% promising. Not saying he'll be one of the best in the NBA when he comes, but it's nice to see.

If you're 7'3", regardless of how many minutes a guy plays, he should always lead his team in rebounds. Great point Cy. This is why we turn to you for insight. Also, lest we forget, if a guy is 7'3", and gets 19 rebs in 35 minutes, we should be sure to avoid giving him any credit because he's 7'3".

Also, the taller you are the better the rebounder you are. Signed, Chuck Barkley, Dennis Rodman and Ben Wallace.

Cy you're a bright one.

Oh, I fully expect him to get murdered on the glass when it comes to boxing out for position. He looked pretty weak and I didn't really see him do that, but he is tall as **** and he seemed to just grab a lot of uncontested rebounds (from what I saw today).

about 3-4 of those misses were on tips(thus counting as rebounds as well)... It's weird for me to see him having a good touch on his hook-shot and midrange jumper but keep missing layups without any strong contest against his shots. I think he needs to get stronger...

Guess it does not matter as much for Jazz fans now that Exum is out, but Australia plays NZ in the Oceania Championship in about 3 hours.
Turkey plays Greece so perhaps potential Jazz draftee Korkmaz may get some run tomorrow.

Australia is going to mop the floor with NZ, its a 20½ point spread.

Turkey - Greece will be worth watching though, I'm interested to see if Georgios Papagiannis(1st rd talent, with eyes on declaring in 2016) can get burn vs an NBA guy like Asik.

I have my doubts about Georgios being a Jazz type of player at this point. Pleiss is moblie and IMO shows a great activity level for a player that size. Papagiannis has been pegged as someone who takes plays off and doesnt run the floor fullspeed. Time is on his side though, just turned 18 a few weeks back.

You seem to have forgotten the discussion questioning Barcelona's coach asking Pleiß to hedge all the time defending the pick and roll. How's he gonna recover in time for the rebounds in these situations?
For the national team so far he almost exclusively drops back in the lane, making it easier for him to crash the boards more frequently.
There's also considerations like coaches asking the player to go for the rejection. 7'2 guys jumping up are usually slow to get up again for the board. See: Hibbert, Roy.
If you want your big to get airborne, better have more wings boxing out instead of running lanes for fast break opportunities.
If you instead want your help defender to only use the length to threaten with the contest and only have him trying to block vision, turning around, boxing out and going for the board, the player will get more boards as a consequence.

Context, instructions, physique, strengths, weaknesses. They matter a lot.
