I'm one of the biggest Burks homers on the board. That being said, I believe Hood is a special talent. Manu potential.

Damn I'm glad this isnt Sophie's choice! We get both!!

I'd really agree with this! Also, I'd love to see them play big... Burk, Hood, Hayward, Favors, Gobert!

I really want to see a Burks, Hood, Hayward, Favors, Gobert line up. That just sounds super fun and it could be really good.

I agree that it will be a fun line up. My biggest concerns are:

1. Can Burks stay in front of PGs?
2. Is it a ball handler by committee or do Hood or Hayward become the primary ball handler
 
I like Hood starting because his height will further create a huge mismatch from the 2-5 position with Hayward, Favors and Gobert. Also, I think Hood will benefit from being on the floor with Hayward because GH has great court vision and will find Hood.

I think Burks would be more productive with the second unit than Hood would perform with the second unit. If the offense becomes stagnant Burks can drive to the basket as he's better than Hood at creating offense. Also, Hood is going to get WAY MORE uncontested shots with the starters than with the 2nd unit. And although Hood can hit contested shots I think he's going to cause problems for defenses who will have a (most-likely) shorter player guarding him while also giving him space because Favors and Gobert will abuse any player who tries to help Hood's man. I think picks will even be set so Hood can have uncontested shots and if the pick isn't defended properly and they give Hood too much attention the pick-and-roll will be even better than it's been.

Hood and it's not even close.

Burks belongs on the bench with Trey, so they can share time being ballhogs with each other.

You should look up burks shots per minute played vs his teammates.
You may be surprised that he is less of a ball hog than others on the jazz

Guess what
Trey burke took more shots per 36 minutes than any of the core players
Hayward was second
Favors was third
Kanter was 4th
Alec Burks took the 5th most shot attempts per 36 minutes.

What a ball hog right?


Btw Rodney hood took more shots per 36 minutes than Burks too

Wouldn't that make Hood 5th then? And Burks 6th? LOL.
 
I think it's close. I think Hood has the better NBA skill set as he's a far better passer and he finishes plays without needing to get all the way to the rim. That is more difficult to guard than Burks who seems to go all the way to the rim regardless of what defender's are in the way. I also think Hood understands the concept of team offense far better than Burks.

That said, I think they both could be very good offensive players. And will probably have careers that are similar as far as success and the way they are viewed around the league.

As for determining who starts this year it may just come down to who shows more ability to defend. As their offense is different but I'd put at a fairly equal level, with different skill sets. Neither of them has lit the world on fire with their defense.

I'd love to see the Burks, Hood, Hayward, Favors and Gobert lineup in stretches this year. Especially once Burke proves that he is who we have seen all along.

I was going off the core players that were vets.
I didn't want to look up stats for every player but then after doing burke, hayward, favors and kanter I decided to look up hood to since he is kind if alec competition.

Pretty surprising though right?

I think most people think that he would be near the top in attempts per minute (myself included) and instead he is near the bottom.

I think we can safely say he isn't a ball hog
 
I think Hood's outside shooting better complements the starters. He's going to be 40%+ from 3PT range. With Hayward not being a strong 3PT shooter and Favors not at all, Jazz could really use Hood's outside shooting. Rodney also floats to open spots better. Snyder mentioned his off-ball movement in the interview.

Burks did improve his 3PT shot, but I'd really like to see him in a Ginobili-type role. As a 6th man he could really thrive, taking over the role Trey had last year (but hopefully a hell of a lot more efficient).
