Arcade Fire to "rock" Orem

I've listened to The Suburbs about five times now, and I think I can remember one song from it.

Check out Neon Bible. It's my favorite Arcade Fire album. The Suburbs took a long time to sink in with me. I didn't like it at first, but then I understood.

Oh, I like Funeral, and am one of the heretics that actually prefers Neon Bible.

I just think The Suburbs is boring as hell.

Also, a note to my Utah brothers and sisters: do not miss Arcade Fire live. Don't do it.

Addendum: I've not seen Arcade Fire live, but every time I try to get hyped up for a concert by listening to a live performance, I get something like this:

That is a band raping one of my favorite songs. If they did at a concert I was attending, I would probably have to leave.

EVERY time? That's wild. In the dozens of times over the years that I've searched for Arcade Fire live performances on youtube, I've never once come across something like that.

The overly-dramatic hippy-dancing, head-bobbing, and terrible terrible live singing of Winn Butler don't show up in other videos?

Sorry, Stickler, this is one of those cases where my grumpy old man comes out.

I thought you meant the raping of your personal favorite songs. I saw Arcade Fire, and the singing was solid. I have seen videos where his voice wavers -- it sounds like his throat is raw. He does have a sort of rough singing style, at times. I mean, you can see how it would be rough on his throat. But in my personal experience, they are unbelievably awesome live. Not everybody can be a Miley / Britney with the perfect-every-time singing voice.

I believe I read somewhere that the Arcade Fire have some Mormon heritage going back in their members, so maybe that has something to do with whatever, or something

This is actually a common assumption among people in the mormon community.. In fact there are a lot of mormons in art and music and literature (although often it amounts to they were raised mormon and are no loger). I think it is a way to fell culturally connected while trying to live a rather restrictive religion.

I'm not LDS, I just thought it was something of note especially since they're playing in Orem, not SLC

So essentially, they're trying...really hard.

As far as Arcade Fire goes, it is pretty much standard issue indie, nothing really special. Funny how much indie bands are starting to conform to their own formulas. Just another genre really. And like any other genre, there are some standouts and lots of conformers. Arcade Fire seems to be just another conformer.

No offense if they are your favorite band, I just agree with an earlier post that they are kind of boring.

I agree with LogGrad. Arcade Fire stopped trying to push the envelope after Neon Bible. I mean look at Kings of Leon, Cold War Kids, Vampire Weekend even the Black Keys... once Indie Gods who now are just trying to sell out, making radio songs, etc. Honestly Indie is just the new Alternative. There still is a ton of cutting edge stuff out there, but some of these well known artists have just decided its time to just become journeyman type rockers.

I absolutely loved CWK's first album...heavy rotation when it came out. The sophomore album was good as well, but not as good as the first...the third one is complete garbage.
