The difference between those two groups of people is that you are supportive of the policies of the left and against the policies of the right, so when you hear someone on the right state their beliefs you equate it with stupidity. If the left has done one thing successfully it is paint their opponents as idiots. The irony is that the solutions of the left are theoretical. They present their ideas as Utopian but again and again they don't work in the real world. We have unfortunately had a front row seat to a demonstration of this over the last seven years. Obama/Biden ran on a platform of Hope and Change. They told us that their policies would reduce racism, decrease the cost and increase the availability of health care, reduce poverty, close the income gap, reduce the deficit, restore respect for America, make the world a safer place and much more. Again and again and again the real world implementation of these policies has resulted in the opposite outcome from the one we were promised.
The liberal response to this outcome is to double down on their failed policies. They are certain that their theoretical solutions would work if given enough time and free reign. Socialism, to them, appears to be such a panacea. It looks so fair. If only everyone would get on board. If only people wouldn't always be looking for ways to game the system.
Unfortunately the reality is that one of the keys to capitalism is the recognition that each individual is driven to put him/herself and their family in the best possible situation. We are not a hill of ants. We are a collection of individuals who are more concerned about our own needs more than we are about the needs of society as a whole. This is reality, and it is even reality for the most altruistic among us. The ability to get ahead is the very foundation of the American Dream. A system that embraces and exploits this dynamic was the key to this countries exceptionalism.
I do not have any difficulty understanding why the socialistic ideal is so appealing to so many people, but I know that in practice it has never worked and it never will work because it completely overlooks who we are and what motivates us. Socialistic systems are destined to fail every time because the more you reward people at a level of mediocrity, the more they will choose to perform at a level of mediocrity. The more they perform at mediocrity the less money that comes into the system for redistribution. The theoretical application of socialism and communism sound so just, but because of the way human motivation works these sorts of societies are simply no match for capitalism.
