GOP Debate Threads

I have never heard any politician other than trump demean another politician for not being a white male. The assertion that liberals demean candidates because of their race or gender is ludicrous.

Maybe pull your head out of your ***?

You say tomato, I say tomaaato. I view these people as bumbling idiots. The article mentions Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz as being lambasted because they are different than liberals. No one has ever said that Sarah Palin is incompetent because she is a woman. They say she is incompetent, because she is incompetent. Calling it discrimination is clearly not true. Ted Cruz is lambasted because his political views make no sense. Even Republicans don't like Ted Cruz.

Notice how she doesn't bring up Marco Rubio? It's because he is not as ridiculous as Ted Cruz.

In General, people don't have a problem with women or minorities. They have a problem with stupidity. The republican party has not found a minority or woman who is not a ridiculous excuse of a politician. The fact is that if there were a minority or a woman politician in the Republican party who actually espoused conservative values, and wasn't a complete blowhard, they would probably win the nomination, and have a very real chance of winning against Hillary.

For you to claim that liberals are attacking these people based on race and gender is childish and intellectually dishonest. Do you support Sarah Palin? Do you like Ted Cruz? You have said in this very thread that you like other candidates better than Ben Carson. Are you racist? Are you sexist? If you can not answer that you support Palin, Cruz and Carson, then by your logic, you are sexist and racist and just as bad as the liberals you are attacking.

I have yet to see Jobag bring up any example where anyone other than Trump belittled anyone based on race or sex. How about maybe reply with a real comment instead of get your head out of your ***. Do you actually think that Liberals are attacking based on sex or race? Like do you really think that, and can you actually back it up?

I do not view those people as idiots. I think that they have all been effectively attacked and marginalized by the left. I think they are excellent examples of my point.

Meanwhile Joe Biden makes the missteps of any of those mentioned look like they were all geniuses by comparison, yet the media promotes this beloved Uncle Joe persona for him to the extent that people are begging him to run for president. It's insane.

Here's a very small sampling of his mistakes:

I very much agree that Joe Biden is an idiot. This doesn't change the fact that Sarah Palin and Ben Carson can't put coherent thoughts together.

They can and I could show you many examples. How about this guy?

The difference between those two groups of people is that you are supportive of the policies of the left and against the policies of the right, so when you hear someone on the right state their beliefs you equate it with stupidity. If the left has done one thing successfully it is paint their opponents as idiots. The irony is that the solutions of the left are theoretical. They present their ideas as Utopian but again and again they don't work in the real world. We have unfortunately had a front row seat to a demonstration of this over the last seven years. Obama/Biden ran on a platform of Hope and Change. They told us that their policies would reduce racism, decrease the cost and increase the availability of health care, reduce poverty, close the income gap, reduce the deficit, restore respect for America, make the world a safer place and much more. Again and again and again the real world implementation of these policies has resulted in the opposite outcome from the one we were promised.

The liberal response to this outcome is to double down on their failed policies. They are certain that their theoretical solutions would work if given enough time and free reign. Socialism, to them, appears to be such a panacea. It looks so fair. If only everyone would get on board. If only people wouldn't always be looking for ways to game the system.

Unfortunately the reality is that one of the keys to capitalism is the recognition that each individual is driven to put him/herself and their family in the best possible situation. We are not a hill of ants. We are a collection of individuals who are more concerned about our own needs more than we are about the needs of society as a whole. This is reality, and it is even reality for the most altruistic among us. The ability to get ahead is the very foundation of the American Dream. A system that embraces and exploits this dynamic was the key to this countries exceptionalism.

I do not have any difficulty understanding why the socialistic ideal is so appealing to so many people, but I know that in practice it has never worked and it never will work because it completely overlooks who we are and what motivates us. Socialistic systems are destined to fail every time because the more you reward people at a level of mediocrity, the more they will choose to perform at a level of mediocrity. The more they perform at mediocrity the less money that comes into the system for redistribution. The theoretical application of socialism and communism sound so just, but because of the way human motivation works these sorts of societies are simply no match for capitalism.

"How stupid are the people of Iowa?" Trump asked. "How stupid are the people of the country to believe this crap?

That is what Donald Trump said to an audience in Iowa, while presumably stumping for their votes. Carson leads Trump in recent polls of Iowa Republican voters. So Trump has, of late, spent some time on the attack. But reasonable people have to wonder what, exactly, was Trump really doing Thursday?

Yes, this is how you win the votes of the people of Iowa. By asking them "how stupid are the people of Iowa?" Brilliant strategy, The Donald. Brilliant ploy. That'll get 'em on your side.

I already clarified with you that I never claimed they say this sort of stuff. Maybe if you recast what I said in this way enough times everyone will believe that I said what you claim I said, though. Good luck with that. It works like a dream in politics. All you need to do is get enough people on-board and repeating it, so it might work here as well.

Trump: "I will bomb the s**t out of ISIS" Well, I suspect there will be a bit of that going on in the days and weeks ahead.....

Trumps appeal has been that he says what he thinks, unfiltered. He has no fear of the consequences for speaking his mind, mostly because he has lived in an environment where he does not have to face those consequences. I'm pretty sure the reason he made these comments is that they are what he actually thinks. If he is defeated at the polls it will prove to him that people really are as stupid as he is saying they are. Ironically, if he is elected at the polls it will also prove to him that people really are as stupid as he is saying they are.

My uncle is a very successful businessman in Calgary. He and his entire family travel to the US every time they need medical care, even though their coverage is free in Canada. Why do you think they do that?

Trump's strengths:

1. He speaks his mind, unfiltered. Since this is essentially anti-politician, it certainly will appeal.

2. In the midst of such things as the "culture wars", the fears associated with immigration, and the fears associated with terrorism and never ending wars, nothing like a little fear mongering demagoguery to appeal to large swaths of the population. Demagougues thrive in the climate present in America today. And I see The Donald as a demagogue, stoking fear, appealing to fear.

3. He takes advantage of Reality TV as a new standard for leadership selection. Back in the 1830's, in his book Democracy in America, Frenchmen Alexis de Toqueville observed that in America, in a nation with such a broad social democracy, it would not be the creame rising to the top. It would be the mediocre.
Granted, The Donald is a highly successful man by American standards. Manna is everything here, after all. Just my opinion, but I see Trump as a good example of the mediocre rising to the top. An accessment that may apply to the whole damn lot of them. The Republican race seems like an episode of Reality TV. Maybe our entire political process is an episode of Reality TV....

Because they are financially and ideologically irresponsible?

He is in the strong, strong minority then. Care to share the specifics of what care this is? "every time"? Lmfao. You are blind bro. USA! USA!

My family lived the American Dream because we moved to Canada. Would not have been possible if we moved to the US. Shoutout to my parents.
