Official UofU homer thread

Crazy thing is that this is not the first time an Emery was involved in a punch in a byu vs utah basketball game.
Google "marshall Henderson Jackson Emery"

Vegas bowl would suck but I'd rather play BYU over teams like Wisconsin, or Temple etc teams of that nature

So be it. It would be better for the team. I don't believe there is a worse bowl game.

This. I can't believe there's a Ute fan(s) out there that would rather face BYU as opposed to say, a Wisconson. Hell, I would take a match up with Temple.

How can any Ute fan want to play a nasty team that we've beat 4 in a row and 9 of the last 12? Even without Booker and the fact that Frankenstein is playing QB for Utah, they'd still beat their asses.

Seriously, if Utah is gonna get the bowl shaft after a 9-3 season, just try and drop down to a bowl that hopefully gives you a chance to get another P5 win under your belt.

Henderson probably deserved it.

It was actually henderson (the ute player) that hit emery (the byu player) in the face

Are you positive that Emery wasn't using his face to try and hurt Henderson's hand? After all, it has clearly been established which school is dirty, and we are posting in a U homer thread so if you're here to defend the school down south for anything, gtfo.

Just read something interesting about what byu bball head coach dave rose said right after the emery punch..... A source that was court side at the time of the incident told me BYU coach Dave Rose wasn’t happy with the move and stared Emery down before telling the referee, “You send him to the locker room or I will.”

The official complied.

That's a nice anecdote and all, but we'll see just how unacceptable Dave Rose felt the punch was here pretty soon. The WCC suspended him for 1 game, which seems soft IMO, but BYU can administer their own suspension on top of that. Will they? Remains to be seen, but I'm not holding my breath.

Im curious what the norm is for a coach/university to do when an incident like this happens. Im sure most ute fans think that since this was a byu player he should be executed by decapitation or something but i wonder what happens most of the time.

In the case of marshall henderson hitting jackson emery this was the resulting punishment: SALT LAKE CITY — The first thing coach Jim Boylen addressed at Monday's press conference was Saturday night's incident involving Marshall Henderson.

Boylen said he and athletic director Chris Hill decided it was appropriate to suspend Henderson for a game, but that Henderson was already automatically suspended for a game for hitting BYU's Jackson Emery with 34 seconds left in the game.

"Marshall Henderson has been suspended per NCAA rules for what is considered fighting, although we don't think it was a fight," Boylen said. "But that's the rule."

According to Rule 4, Section 26, Article 2, "A fight is a confrontation involving one or more players ... wherein (but not limited to) a fist, hand, arm, foot, knee or leg is used to combatively strike the other individual."

Also, the officials at the game ejected Henderson for fighting and apparently reported it as such following the game. The NCAA rules clearly state that a player is suspended for anything that is considered a fight.

Rule 10, Section 7, Article 2 states: "The first time an individual participates in a fight during the season ... the individual shall be suspended from participating in the team's next regular-season game."

According to Article 3, a second fight results in banishment for the rest of the season.

I missed this one somehow. Well played, Joe. Well played.

repped

FWIW i think byu should suspend him for additional games

It was a pretty big haymaker style punch and a cheap shot that seemed unprovoked. Worse than your run of the mill fight/punch

Roscoe mendenhall just left byu to go coach a different school.

Probably scared of facing the utes and getting whipped again next year.

Now im doing it right!

Interesting move.
Personally, and only if we must because we get skipped over by all of the other bowls (because we can't turn down an invite to the Vegas and there's no "no repeats" clause), this now makes me WANT to play BYU in the Vegas bowl.
I'd like nothing more than to send Bronco off with a serious beat down.

Props to him for wanting to coach in the Vegas Bowl, BTW.

I called and told my mom (huge BYU fan). She's pretty darn upset.

In all seriousness, Roscoe was on record this past offseason as saying that BYU needed to find a home in a P5 conference within the next 3 years. Is he choosing now to leave BYU because he feels that's not gonna happen? Was it just a matter of an offer that was too good to pass up? I don't think he leaves if he absolutely believes BYU is P5 in the next few years.
