OFFICIAL Postseason race thread *Sticky*

So only a 2 game difference in the loss column? Seems kind of foolish to say it's a certainty that Houston finishes with a better conference record than us.

Houston's remaining West games:

vs Memphis
vs LAC
vs Minnesota
@ OKC
vs Utah
vs OKC
@ Dallas
vs Phoenix
vs LAL
@ Minnesota
vs Sacramento

Let's be really optimistic and say they finish 4-7, probably beating the Wolves/Suns/Lakers/Kings. They'd finish with a conference record of 26-26.

Utah's remaining West games:

@ Golden State
@ Sacramento
vs Phoenix
@ Houston
@ OKC
@ Minnesota
vs LAL
vs Golden State
vs Minnesota
@ Phoenix
vs San Antonio
vs LAC
@ Denver
vs Dallas
@ LAL

Let's again be really optimistic and say Utah goes 10-5, only losing to the top 4 West teams and going a perfect 10-0 in the other games. They'd finish with a conference record of 26-26.

That's what it would take to tie Houston's conference record. And honestly, if it actually played out that way, we'd finish several games above Houston in the standings anyways - no tiebreaker would even be necessary.

KD aint kiddin -- we're 16-21 in conference, Houston is 22-19. Good news is then that that our game against Houston doesn't mean anymore than any other game (despite "tiebreaker" headlines you might hear from Jazz media around then. Bad news is that we basically neat to beat Houston out by a game. As far as Houston goes, they have a very difficult schedule, until their last 5 games which include Lakers, Phoenix, Minnesota and the Kings who all should be tanking by then. In other words, if we aren't up on Houston enough to brave a 5 game end-of-season win streak, we might be outta luck. Here's to hoping.

In other news -- Jordan Clarkson this summer!?!?!?

With Kobe and Hibbert's salary off the books they'll have 60+ million in cap space. So unless they can convince Durant and another big name FA to team up there will match anything.

Big NBA night tonight.

Dallas lost in OT. Blazers and Rockets are both down in points-- would be a ****ing coup if they both lost.

It does mean more. Even though the tiebreaker is not in play, a win against Houston creates a two game swing in relation to them.

Updated OP

Last night the Jazz didn't play but it mostly went the jazz's way. Grizzlies, Blazers, Mavs and Warriors lost. Rockets won along with the Nuggets, Suns. Lakers and Thunder.

Tonight's games:

Wolves @ Hornets
Grizzlies @ Cavs
Spurs @ Pacers
Kings @ Pelicans
Clippers @ Mavs
Magic @ Warriors

Jazz are 8 games out of 5th, 3 1/2 out of 6th, 3 out of 7th and 1 1/2 out of 8th.

Check out the Mavs remaining schedule:

vs Detroit
vs Indiana
@ Charlotte
@ Cleveland
vs Golden State
vs Portland
@ Portland
@ Golden State
@ Sacramento
@ Denver
vs New York
@ Detroit
@ Minnesota
vs Houston
vs Memphis
@ LA Clippers
@ Utah
vs San Antonio

7 more wins might be generous for them. If they do win 7 more games, and if we beat them on our homecourt in the 2nd to last game of the season, thus winning the tiebreaker over them... we'd only have to finish 11-9 to get in the playoffs. That's totally doable.

We need the Mavs to lose the borderline winnable games on that schedule -- aka, the next four (1-3 we should probably hope for), going 1-3 in the 2x GS 2x Portland stretch would be great, losing at Sacremento would be nice. Right now let's pray for 3-9 over next twelve. Also for us to win games would be good too

So last night memphis was without marc gasol, mike conley, and zach randolph.
They go to cleveland and win. Tony allen scores 26 points (is that a career high?)

WTF

Yeah Memphis is in. Their schedule is easy, they're winning the hard games, and they're like 13 above .500.

They're "skipping steps." To win a championship you need to have no depth on your bench. Only youngsters who can't make baskets,

That's a brutal schedule.

Fact of the matter is of our next 12 games, we have a better record than only 5 of them, and 3 of those games are on the road.

@GS
Wizards
@Kings
Cavs
Suns
@Bulls
@Bucks
@Rox
@Thunder
@Wolves
Lakers
Warriors

Based on recent play, I think 3-12 is probably our most likely outcome down this stretch.
