Do You Allow Exum To Play During The Summer?

It sounded like he was setting the stage to let his country down easy. Framing is important when your image is your income.

Do the Jazz have any power to not let him play? If not, the thread is moot.

Let's compare/contrast the Utah/Exum scenario to the OKC/Adams scenario.

Steven Adams is the only NBA player the Tall Blacks has access to, and yet he has not played a single game for the Tall Blacks ever since he has entered the NBA. Sam Presti has been very smart about this, even though he has encouraged Adams not to play in the offseason (keeping Adams fresh for the NBA season + reducing chances of an injury), Presti and Adams visited New Zealand in the offseason and held various basketball clinics for the kids and do a lot of other things for NZ basketball (everything except Adams playing in the offseason for the Tall Blacks).

I know this is small sample size, but you can compare/contrast the differences in how each FO handle their international players...

Exum missed all season with his knee. Do you, if you are the Jazz FO, allow him to play for his NT this summer? Then put him in SL?

Why or why not?

If he is dumb enough to play for his NT this summer, after what happened last year, then I question his commitment to the Jazz. Trade his ***.

I think a player should be able to do whatever he wants to do during the off season unless it is forbidden in his contract.
How about this question... Would you prefer that he plays or not? What is your personal preference?

In his exit interview, he said he won't be doing summer league. I think he's gonna focus on getting better and getting ready for the Olympics.

I say play for National team and blow off SL......On the National team ,you have Joe Ingles,Andrew Bogut,Ben Simmons,Aron Bayne,Patty Mills,Cameron Bairstow,M Dellavedova......all NBA players and their homies to Exum who care for their mate.

Except you don't get the kind of support you get from the Jazz phisio and support staff that you get when you're in the US.

I'm all for experience players playing for their NT, just not young developing players, especially a player coming off of and receiving from an ACL.

I'm not sure the jazz staff deserve the credit you're giving them. I know you don't need a lot of evidence in order to be fully committed and convicted, doe.

Unless a player has a serious history with recurring injuries, I don't think you should restrict someone based on the possibility that they MIGHT get injured, it's not logical. He's just as likely to get injured playing for the national team as he is for the jazz and we're just as ****ed either way (maybe even less so as we get more time to recruit someone else). At the end of the day what matters is his development and playing basketball is the best thing for that.

That's how i feel anyway.

I thought it was pretty cool when Stockton and Malone represented the USA in the Olympics. But do any of you remember what kind of season they had the following year? They were tired and it showed! Players need to recharge during the summer and spend some time working on their game, which they can't do if they are spending six weeks of every summer learning some other coach's system so they can play for "national pride." Say what you want about Kanter, but even he got that one right.

Does the Aussie NT even want him right now, given that he hasn't played in a year?

Ah yeah they do ... Dellavedova is our starter .... I think if rather he play SL, I don't think he'll have a huge role in Rio if he does play and the minutes he does play I'm not sure if they'll be productive for his game. I think I'd rather see him play more the NBA style games in SL
Ben Simmons has made himself unavailable, be interesting to see if Dante follows

Why is it even a question if a basketball player with extremely limited professional basketball experience should be playing basketball?

Hell yes he should play.

the answer of course is health/injuries.

You should have heard dennis Lindseys answer when he was asked if he wants dante to play for his national team. I guarantee you that he doesn't.

He also said that while watching rudy last year for France he was always wishing that the coach would take him out of the game and get him off the court.

You obviously think it's dumb to not want him to play for his national team but a lot of people feel that way.

DL talked about how he had mixed emotions. He liked seeing them out there getting experience and playing, but at the same time he felt relived when they werent playing. He never said he doesnt want them to play. He sounded like a nervous mom.

You got that post right. But before that he was asked if he wanted dante to play and he didn't really answer because he isn't supposed to say he doesn't want them to play and so he went the pc route saying that nba is supposed to work with fiba or something and mentioned mark Cuban in some way.
Reading between the lines I feel pretty certain that dl would prefer that dante doesn't play.

So why do the Jazz care?

Well, there was that Spanish kid we drafted who was supposed to be our new John Stockton, until he blew out his knee while playing for Spain before we even got the chance to see him in a Jazz uniform. The only thing the Jazz got out of that draft pick was his medical bills. And then we lose Exum for an entire year because playing a "friendly" for his national team was just so damn important. And say what you want, but when is Rudy supposed to find the time to work on his strength and conditioning (and free throws, damn it) if he spends the summer playing for France?

Rudy regressed this past season and it my personal opinion that not using last summer to work on his game had a lot to do with it.
