Pissed at people

Lindsey is playing strategic chess. Some teams are going to be choking on huge contracts with mediocre players in 3-4 years. Some front offices cannot see past this season because they fear for their jobs unless they win now. DL and QS have the confidence of ownership so they can play the long game.

This is another area where I'm actually concerned with DL. He seems dead set on keeping Hayward at any cost. Paying Hayward 30-35 million per year will devastate that chess board when we still have to pay Gobert, Favors, Hood and Exum among others.

Well here are my view points on the off season

First the draft
- We trade the #12 pick for George Hill. Most people loved this deal. Which I can understand because Hill is a really good guard. From my view point we didn't receive adequate value though (at least based on the details we know). Especially considering we could have signed a guard in FA (albiet not quite as good as Hill and for a little bit more money) while keeping our pick. I thought the best course of action was to move the pick for a future pick or picks (another one in 2017 would have been nice) and then just sign a guard.

- We trade #42 pick for #55 and cash. We select a point guard who will almost certainly never play for us. I'm not sure why he didn't just move out all together? Just trade the pick for a future pick down the road.

- We draft another guard who will almost certainly never play for us at #60. Again I don't understand why we wouldn't just move that pick for a pick in the future.

- Bolomboy was a good get.

Free Agency

- I love the JJ pick up. Exactly what we needed imo.

We'll see what happens from here. I think we will still have a trade or two coming, and we still need a backup Center. As a whole I can't give this off season an A though in good conscience. Maybe I'm just a tough grader though.

Nobody was trading picks for next year in exchange for picks next year. Nobody. Fortunately we have 6 picks already next year because DL prepared correctly. He did as well as he possibly could have, staying within the plan.

You pay Haywood that contract because he is worth it. Players worth their contract are always tradable. I have a high level of confidence Hayward isn't going to go Boozer after he gets the big dollars. That is the biggest worry with large contracts. Those become difficult to deal.

OKC learned our lesson for us with the Harden debacle. Let's not do that.

The deal isn't about Hayward. The deal is about getting this team to championships. Can this team, as currently constructed, win championships? If yes, pay Hayward. If not, you can't pay him. Because once you do and you pay other guys, that's it. This is the group you are riding with. Big changes will be virtually impossible to make happen. We aren't a contender yet so I don't see it as a smart move. We're close but we are still missing one big piece.

I'm an equal opportunity offender.

But how can we grade what the Jazz have done as anything but incredible.
Look what the Lakers have done. The Mavs. It's a straight F for both.

Given the situation, Jazz killed it. Period.

I recognize most agree. Just amazing we have to defend the moves to ANYONE here.

COME OUT OF THE WOODWORK IN AGREEMENT!!!

Yes, I agree. DL managed to shore up both of our weaknesses without committing too much money for too many years. Great job!

The only thing keeping me from doing cartwheels across the floor is the $2,500 deductible on my medical insurance.

I disagree.

The odds of the Jazz being able to trade Hayward in the future for a good return, even if he's on a max, are really high. The odds of the Jazz signing a superstar in free agency are pretty much non-existent. Paying Hayward wouldn't be devastating at all, and it certainly wouldn't prohibit the Jazz from making big changes. The only thing that would be "more difficult", at least from a cap space standpoint, is signing a superstar in FA, which wasn't going to happen anyways.

People are flooding the Grizzlies with phone calls trying to pick up Mike Conley, I'm sure.

LOVE this offseason so far. I'm also hopeful that teams will be trading soon and Lindsay will have a couple good moves there as well.

I'd be curious if someone wanted to mention 3 better Jazz offseasons in the past 25 years, if we're talking trades and FA.

If you want an answer, don't insult the person you're asking.

Just tell me, please, how these great moves are going to play out on the court during the run up to next years' postseason. Are we going to make a 4 seed? A three, and even a first round win? Are the games going to be the best thing to do in town on a cold winter night?

Is Laker Town going to dread Utah coming in?

We will be a 5-8 seed next year.

Loving this offseason (so far) still would like to see a trade or two, but if the team buys in and stays healthy we could make some noise.

Can someone clue me in to why Dr. PKM is so sensitive? Is it just a role he plays here on the board or do those folks that know him in real life see him act the same way?

Don't take it from me, Dr. Jones is pretty sure I hate him, but I think he's just honestly excited about what the Jazz have done (as am I) and wondering why anyone would be a stupid little prick about it.

In real life, in the extremely limited time that I saw him he was chill as ****.
