Boris Diaw Traded To Jazz (news, not just proposed trade)

Hill
Hood
Hayward
Favors
Gobert

Exum
Burks
Joe Johnson
Lyles
Diaw

Neto
Mack
Ingles
Withey

That is 14 contracts so the last spot is between Bolomboy, Chris Johnson or Pleiss. Who should we keep? Or do we trade Neto or Mack for a future asset?

Chris Johnson won't be back. Mack and Neto are both under contract and should stay. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, with the addition of Diaw I fully expect either Pleiss or Withey to be moved/cut because the Jazz have no need for both. We have our first four bigs solidified now. Pleiss and Withey at 26 years old apiece hold little development value. One goes, one stays on the inactive 13-15 and Bolomboy gets the last spot for development.

True, we did cut Bell, but that was because he and Corbin where going at it.

You sure Garrett was guaranteed? I thought he was a partial guarnatee player.

I do remember cutting Jerrett during his guarantee year.

Just saw this. Nevermind.

I wish they could get rid of Pleiss contract through trade. Can't see the team waiving him (6M left)

Also, if I remember correctly, in Bell's case we bought him out at the end of his contract (for almost 100% of what was left). We asked him to go home, root on his sofa and collect the checks.

Yeah Pleiss isn't an NBA player. He seems like a nice guy who just isn't good enough, so I feel bad, but 1000000x Withey over him.

Got to LOVE a big man who can pass. The ball will be moving now that Burke is gone.
We are building an offense to fit Qs system.

Also can be a mentor for Lyles, because he plays the way the Jazz want Lyles to develop into.

The Jazz now have Diaw to mentor Lyles and Johnson to mentor Hood. The bad twist is that both Lyles and Hood will probably see a decrease in playing time. I might be worth it, tough, if everybody gets along.

Raja Bell ~$3M
Grant Jerrett $1M
Diante Garrett, $0.8M

Jerrett dislocated his shoulder in Summer League and was out for the season, so he wasn't going to play and they were on the hook for his salary anyway. Cutting him just opened up a roster spot.

Diante Garrett was traded, not cut. We still have the pick from that trade (New York's 2017 second rounder).

This will be great for both, long term. This is what the Jazz are building for, the future. We also have Hill to mentor Dante. Bye-bye CJ, hello to Joe becoming mostly a cheerleader but also a guy who can deliver and surprise when everyone else is having a bad night with his change of pace style.

Good addition, adds more depth & experience. He also fits our system & should be a good locker room influence. Love how the roster is shaping up.

Hill/Exum/Mack/Neto
Hood/Burks
Hayward/J.Johnson/Ingles
Favors/Lyles
Gobert/Diaw/Whithey

If healthy, I expect this team to compete for home court advantage in the 1st rd

Boris led both teams in +/- that postseason, along with assists (even though he didn't start the first two games). He was honestly the 2nd best player on that Spurs team, I don't think I've ever seen a better glue guy in a playoff series.

If he could give us 2 seasons of even half of that level of play I'd be amped.

They'll be better suited to deal with injuries than they were last year. Adding these guys at any point last year would have been the difference between making the playoffs comfortably and missing out. Hell, give all of Burke's minutes to Hill, Booker's minutes to Diaw (kind of a push TBH) and Chris Johnson's minutes to Iso Joe. . . that's the 4th seed last year.

The key question with Diaw will be to find a way to motivate the guy. He is a consumate team player, he needs to feel like he plays for a team and that the team wants him to be as unselfish as he is naturally. If he can be motivated by Q and the others and kept away from too much food, than he should be a very useful tool to have.
