USA Olympics Basketball Discussion Thread

Is this the actual olympics? Like an elimination type game? Or just a warm-up or qualifying game?

Nothing more boring than watching USA Olympic basketball. We just too good for it to be interesting. Euros/Foreigners still aren't on our level.

They WILL get tougher opponents... Argentina's best player was Luis Scola and Manu (who didn't start IIRC).

Cousins with 15 and 14 in only 16 minutes.

What a clown.

There is (almost) nobody in the WORLD that could guard Cousins.

But it's still kinda funny watching him trying to 'behave' in the USA team environment though...

Oone time an Argentinian player inadvertently bumped into him just after the whistle, he had this "Why isn't this a foul??" expression and about to question the ref, then suddenly his facial expression changed to "OH this isn't the Kings, I better behave" look, and walked away.

So he's teachable.

Better inquiry than finding somebody that can guard him would be who has the potential to get under skin and push him over the edge down low? That's what is most fun about the Olympics to me. It seems like there are goons everywhere. Everybody always seems annoyed by how everybody else plays because they aren't used to eachother. Wang Zhelin is one that could get under his skin for sure; Huge lower body, doesn't take crap from anybody, known agitator. US/China play at least 3 times over the next few weeks. He might make Cousins snap if they get enough court time together.

I'd wager anything Cousins does nothing more than whine.
He's not a stupid guy and he's not a bad person.

Your knowledge of the Chinese league knows no bound, I solute you.

I wasn't implying anything negative. I love watching Cousins. I hope he gets out of Sacramento so I can watch him more. I'm very anti-perimeter bigs that just hang out on the 3 point line all day so anybody that is remotely banging around the paint - I like. Absolutely hated watching what Serge Ibaka has become in the playoffs this year after he showed some inside game potential earlier in his career. I'm hoping for some physical play in the Olympics - that's all.

On another note, is Paul George's jumping ability completely shot now? I didn't see many Pacer games this year and I didn't see the Argentina game, but watched the highlights and he didn't look like he had much left in those legs. Still played good overall though apparently.

Could be still mental. I haven't watched enough to have an opinion.

Do you watch Cousins? He spends most of his time in the 15-20 midrange area jacking up shots. Why do you think his FG% is so crappy every year? He doesnt ban down low as much as he just drives from the perimeter and uses his freakish combo of size and athletic ability to draw fouls.

That's not the story his shot chart tells:

And I'm aware of his perimeter game....but he's still super physical by today's standards....no matter how you slice it. It doesn't matter where he has the ball when his possesion starts. Plus, it's not just getting buckets were talking about here. He's one of the most physical rebounders I've seen in awhile.
