What's new

OMG! Sanders might be an atheist!

Why? It's the 21st century. Time to catch up. Women can now be strong and men can now be supportive. And society survives. Isn't it great?

Sheesh.. Another post taken completely wrong. I would have NO issue at all with a woman president and husband as first man.

I was meaning to imply I'm not sure I'm ready for a first man if it's two dudes.
Somehow, I have no issue with a gay man President, but a "first man" in this context is weird for me.
At least I'm honest.

I have ZERO chauvinism.

Do devil worshippers even exist outside of horror movies? It was an obvious joke.

There are satanists, but I almost see them like I'd see a pastafarian. I don't think they're taking it all that seriously, just trying to do something a little bit outrageous to make people question what it's all about.

Just reading the first little bit on their official web page they say that all gods were created in our minds and satanism is their way of internalizing the greater powers of the universe and being at peace with man's real nature. So essentially they are atheists who use satan as a symbol of their rejection not only of the concept of an omnipotent God but also as a rejection of the philosophy behind most religions that put humans at odds with their own self.

So, attention-whores.

I said there are no devil worshippers. I knew there were Satanists, who are pretty much libertarians. I even had a friend who was that kind of satanist.

Yeah, I've never heard of real devil worshipers.

I'm not bothered by these emails. People float ideas, good and bad. Since this wasn't a tactic they used, who cares if a few people discussed it. Think of your own business meetings. Would you want your entire company blamed for the stupid ideas that no one took seriously?

I don't think the idea is the biggest issue, so much as the fact that people within the DNC were trying to come up with ideas to hurt Sander's campaign, when they are supposedly neutral.

Would you care if you were volunteering to be on the PTA and you discovered that the school was discussing tactics to eliminate you from consideration for the job? Digging up any dirt they can find and hoping that the other mom's in the school see it as a negative? This isn't a case of Hillary and her people discussing ways to beat Bernie. It's a case of the Democratic National Committee trying to ensure that Hillary's competition for the nomination was eliminated. The chairman of the DNC is resigning over it.

I miss Bernie.
dalamon Would the DNC leak about how they treated Sanders cause you to second guess voting D in this election? (if you could vote, hypothetical)

Why, why not?

You second guess then see the name "Trump" and you come to your senses.

It appears to be a bigger deal than I initially thought. The resignation is appropriate.

I would never be happy to hear about negative emails concerning me. But I would be naive to think there never has been. In fact, I've had two situations in my working life where people told lies about me because they wanted to take my place. It is horrible.

I cannot think of anything that could make me vote R or D for President. I wish I had more third party options in local and state elections. Both of these parties are a mess.

This to me is the biggest failing of the third parties. No foundation. They have not gone after city council positions, school boards, county positions, state reps, mayors...

At least in a cohesive national strategy. It builds a network, donors, expertise...

Also, fully in agreement on the mess our current main parties are in.

No money, no campaign. In local elections, there are the crazies that run on some vague party ticket, giving all third parties a bad name. There are no good answers, I fear.

It's tough to say. I think the goal if I was in America was to continue to voice displeasure with the Democratic platform and the nominee for Dem VP, seriously threatening to vote Green the entire way.

I figure the fear of losing the Sanders base (as Trump inevitably starts crushing Hillary in the polls) will bring in some pretty big movement to the left. If there's no concessions whatsoever I honestly can't see how I wouldn't vote for Jill Stein, even with the knowledge of Trump wanting to keep my people out of America (preventing me from watching Jazz games in the process). Jill Stein has every right to spoil a Democrat victory if all that party is going to do is yell things like "America is ALREADY great!" and provide no hope for America's working class.

The potential for 3 more Republican justices in the supreme court is a weird wrinkle, and an uncomfortable one. I suppose I would have to look into the history of how much obstructive power the SCOTUS has in terms of going against both popular opinion and the wishes of the Congress & Senate in terms of the decisions that they've made.
