What's new

What does religious moderation consist of?

And no way will I ever watch a jazz game with peeks if we ain't getting drunk.

Stoked,

Can you please tell fish that I was raised by mega-teasers and sincerely cannot help myself. You should see the way these animals deal with teasing/harassment (the upside is that they know it's love because that's all they know). tia.

This is how I am too. Makes for fun interactions meeting new people. You know right away if you're gonna be really good friends or just meh friends.

I haven't posted because I don't consider myself a religious moderate. I've never believed in God, I was not raised in a religious household, I never left my faith, and the idea of having faith in the Christian sense is not only very bizarre to me but I have extremely negative feelings about it. I also do not think Christian ideology is good. It's not just a matter of it not being true, but that it is actually worse than many other ways of looking at the world. It has held humanity back much more than it ever benefited us. If God existed I'd be disappointed in the Universe.

How about this:

Jesus was an alien. He found our civilization, decided that he could help, he came down to help us. After we treated him the way he did, he gave us the proverbial middle finger and hasn't been back since.

I hope his bosses found out he violated the Prime Directive.

I've actually come up with some semi-decent story ideas that are sort of sci-fi and deal with an alternative version of what God is.

Arthur C Clarke has a book series that ends up being sort of an alt-God story, "Rendezvous with Rama."

The Bible story is okay too.

I enjoy nothing in moderation.

I am certain everyone will have a hissy fit with what I'm about to say, but I just don't give a ****...

I do not consider myself "religious." For me (and I'm not arguing definitions here, but rather how I feel on the matter) I hear "religion" and my skin crawls. Not kidding.

The word conjures up images in my mind of the Pharisees plotting and scheming to get rid of Jesus.
Religion to me is more a set of man-made rules designed with good intentions but in effect become exlusionary and "judgy."

I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe He is my savior.
For all those that want to say "by his fruits" (implying mine are rotten) I would only respond that I'm sorry I don't measure to your standards, but you can't take from me the fact I believe.

I hate the word/thought of religion, but I do consider myself a "believer" or a "spiritual" person.
Measuring up isn't in my DNA.

I'm not sure what a religious moderate is exactly and maybe I qualify under some people's definition... but I don't personally consider myself a moderate by my own definition because, for me, moderate means ho hum and take it or leave it (or wavering, or somewhat still undecided). I am not that. I am steadfast.
I just don't put man's religious hierarchy into my spiritual consciousness.

I've seen way too many people become non-believers because they allow their fellow man.. Christian man.. to tear them down. We are all sinners. Every last one of us.

This is a pretty high form of the born-again Jesus/Bible believer that I listen to a lot on Pacific Garden's drama series. I think it is an essential brick in the wall, so to speak, that has to be there or the whole thing just falls down..... a keystone.

But I'm a follower of my "Aunt Gretta", my real aunt I lived with years ago, who taught me to question LDS authorities and set me on my course of braying against the lesson manuals and other stuff produced by the LDS offices as standard doctrine.

She said "A man's reach should exceed his grasp". If we standardize thought or doctrine, will kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. It is the seeking that redeems our minds from yesterdays' standards.

You read "Towing Jehovah"?

Not bad. I've actually tried to be cool with fish, but he's extremely sensitive. I declared him the poster I'd most like to watch a game with in real life, donated to the baby fund, etc. But he hasn't ever liked my version of dry humor or challenge.

I was convinced OL wasn't a real person. I still have a hard time believing it. I'm not sure what we'd do if we hung out, but I like christchurch and plant nurseries.

I think there's a difference between intellectual elitism and having atypical values that you don't mind defending. There are many places where I would never be accused of intellectual elitism. Many. I can understand why I am around here, though.

I know you weren't saying anything negative. It wasn't received that way. However, it does say something that OL and fish liked it.

If you do come by this way again definitely come and visit our nursery... will only be here for 2 more years though.

Never been. Never felt tugged there either. But, who knows.

I think Buddhism would probably fascinate you if you're into philosophy... I'm talking about the real core buddhist philosophy that only 2-3% of buddhist understands, not false worshipping that's going on today.

Are you a Buddhist and if so, are you one of the 2-3%?

I spent two years doing zen mediation. Buddhism and I broke up.
