Pleiss Traded to Philly!!!

Anyone with any clue about how things work will continue to acknowledge that it was obviously the best we could get for Enes.

Also, Kanter sucks.

If they paid $500k to offload his 3.5M salary they make money on the deal...

Not if factor in the seconds. Teams sell seconds anywhere between 1 and 3M. We traded back from 42 to 50-something and got 3M for it. Those seconds are not worthless.

The #sixers will receive both the most favorable and least favorable of Utah's 4 2017 second-round picks

I don't like this. I guess it will be worth it if we manage to extend Favs.

As a side note... if I was a GM I'd always get one dollar from the other team... goes down as cash considerations in the tweet and most of the time people never figure out how much cash actually came over.

Dennis is a smart guy, I'm guessing we need the cap room for a reason.

I have no worries on the 2nd round picks, either. We have a slew of them and probably won't have the roster spots for those guys anyways.

It does seem to be a high price to dump the salary, so we were motivated by something more. I think we can all smell that out. I mean... shoot... if we can get $3,000,000 for swapping a second round pick then we just gave up $6,000,000 in assets plus cash to not have to pay $3.5 million. So that isn't the case.

I think we want the roster spot and the cap space. We were negotiating the Rudy Gobert extension before the Olympics and then we tabled talks until he got back. Is this enough $$$ to get renegotiate his contract to offset the future ability to keep our core? If so, would you trade 2 x Second round picks and a bit of cash to be able to keep your core? Of course you would. Buying him out hits the cap and reduces our flexibility.

I would like to see a hungry Kendall Marshal at training camp competing with Raul and Mack for the spot. Marcus would get whooped playing beside the other 3 and learning. We typically have 3 guard spots available, but this year it appears we will have 4 points with one being traded later in the season. Why not muddy up the water some more?

Yes... they have value. On draft night they are worth more... If we sold off two picks one of which is likely a late 2nd rounder for 2.5-3M then its fair value for a future asset. The roster spot is also important as another poster noted. That's another chance we have to look at a player now.

I don't love the deal, but I'm realistic in looking at the whole thing. I'd love to have an owner like Balmer that says eff it we will take the hit, extend favors and pay money to preserve the assets. The Millers don't have that kind of cash and I don't think they are nearly as emotionally invested as some of the owners are.

Which means we basically sold a couple second round picks for 3 mil. We free up a needed roster spot for Bolomboy and we get rid of a player who was never going to see the floor. Solid move by the Jazz. Turn something we don't need into something we do.

Yeah, when you put it like this (2 seconds for 3M) it doesn't sound as such a huge overpay. I'd still say we overpaid a bit but nothing too egregious.

Ummm, gais?

Gobert extension incoming.

Also I wonder if there is an unsigned veteran free agent out there that the Jazz might think fills a need. If I remember Horny cut Marshall in Phoenix along with Diante Garrett and when it came time to get a DLeague point guard I think Horny said Garrett was the higher caliber guy personality wise.

We have 4 second rounders and 2 first rounders next year. One of the second rounders is GS... so they will get that one and it will be like the 59th or 60th pick which has no monetary value. The other one will likely be NY's which will be anywhere from 39-45 is my guess.

Need to see what cash went out, but it seems about the right value to me. I don't want us to end up like Boston this year... had a ton of picks and may have to release some decent prospects because of a roster crunch. Offloading one of these picks (the GS second rounder shouldn't even count)is not going to hurt us at all.

Not that I have any desire to rehash Kanter, but if there are two teams willing to give a player a max contract, I'd suspect that player's value on the market may be at least a tier above packing peanuts.

Would you have given him the max from Utah's perspective?

One of those will be Mr. Irrelevant too... that GS second rounder will be 57-60 unless Curry, KD, and Thompson get suspended for PED use. In which case our 2017 GS first rounder would look good.
