That moment when Exum "got it."

The day Dante Exum feels completely comfortable playing in the NBA is the day the Utah Jazz move from a playoff team to a contender as long as the rest of the core stays in tact.

It's fair to say that Exum is not a current superstar. It's fair because it's extremely obvious and a no-brainer to make that statement. To say that he never will be? How the hell can anyone make that statement this early in his career? I am not saying that he will be, but it's unfair to make a statement to that degree, either in his favor or against him, for at least another 2 years. He's spent one rookie season playing in the NBA, and saying that after one year of watching him play NBA basketball at the age of 19 is enough to make the assumption that he will never be a go-to man in the NBA, is ridiculous. Obviously you have not been watching NBA basketball for very long. There are a lot of players that come into the league at a younger age and take a few years to develop. If your giving up on him before his 2nd year in the NBA (not including last year where he was injured the full season), that you have a lot of research to do.

Mr LakerSlapper i completely concur with your astute albeit longwinded assessment. Well played Sir !

That moment when Exum "got it."

Exum's defense is no joke! When we play the Warriors, I wonder, if we had George Hill Guarding Curry, how effective Exum could be guarding Durant. Obviously Exum doesn't have the length to Bother Durant's shot (no one agile enough does.... Maybe Aminu or Greek Freak closest thing.) but in the playoffs a few years ago, putting Chris Paul on Durant gave him issues if I remember right.

Didn't anyone notice in the first quarter after Redick got by him for a layup on the left side, that they went down the court and Redick got up on him and Dante just pushed him off very hard almost knocking him over and got called for a foul. I haven't seen him do that before either.

Redick is the king of pushing off and running out to the perimeter. Nice to seem Exum give him a taste of his own medicine.

I agree. Look at Kawhi, Curry and even Harden. No one thought they would be as good as they are now 6 games into their 2nd preseason.

The whole 'confidence, or lack thereof' narrative that has been present on this board during his career thus far is a joke (as are pretty much all fan-built narratives about an athletes mental makeup). Expecting a guy to score and to finish around the rim when he has no ability to do so is nonsensical because it's expecting a guy to make undoubtedly inefficient plays when his team is trying to win games. Smart people don't do that.

You can hardly blame jazz fans for talking about confidence. Boler and Harp talk about it at least 20 times a game.

May not mean anything, but in the one game we have beaten the Dubs over the past 2 years, Exum had the highest plus minus on the team: Jazz were plus 19 in that game with Exum on the floor. Dubs were at full strength.

At this point I'm just happy that Exum is a legitimate NBA player. I was concerned when we drafted him. I've been impressed that his injury hasn't slowed him down, and he continues to improve.

I'm still on the "don't say what Exum is or isn't" campaign. Too early.

I disagree. I know what you're saying but I think the game against Phoenix last week and last nights game(and his summer league game pre-injury) show that he has a mindset now that he wants to dominate. He has the speed, agility, length, craftiness, passing ability, and now the drive, mid-range jumper and three point shot to make him unguardable as he develops. I love that scoop shot off the high glass. Will that become his signature move?

"That moment" is upon us.

It is plenty obvious that he isn't going to be what he was as a rookie.

I kind of can't believe that 2.5 years after being so excited about getting him in the draft as a big "**** you" to the Lakers we are finally witnessing his potential pretty much realized. I'm ****ing giddy.

Ive been a Dante supporter ever since I saw him play elite defense at 19 years old against the best PG's in the world nite after nite.I could see it could translate into offense as well.
But what we see physically doesn't translate offensively if the will to dominate isn't there .

I think we're starting to see that in Dante, the accepted challenge against Booker against Rivers. And damn does he look fast, long and agile to these guys.

Dante is 13-15 FT over the last two games. I read that one of his biggest goals for this season is to get to the FT line more often.

At 58 seconds, that's what he needs to do 10 times a game eventually.

somebody's "mindset" doesn't define them as a professional of any type. But perhaps especially when you're a professional athlete. Dante has a lot to prove over the next two seasons.

He still can't consistently hit shots off the dribble. You can't be unguardable without a reliable pull up game.

I totally respect your opinion. I readily admit you know a lot more than me about hoops overall. But watch this and then tell me he has a lot to prove. The eyes don't lie. He is sofa king good... right now.
