The golf is definitely not the car to impress most women but that is a dumb reason to buy a car. But one you like and enjoy driving and be confident in it that is more impressive. Plus any women who likes you for your car probably shallow and that doesn't sound like someone you would like.

I guess I also want it to be a bit of a status symbol as well notwithstanding trying to impress a girl. I know the golf is going to drive really well and also quick around the corners. Audi is a 4WD and chassis is bigger and bulkier, so it'll be slower for sure but potentially more 'menacing'?


But anyway, of those 2 cars, if you see me driving, which one would look more impressive?

I'm not a fan of either I worked to long as an auto mechanic to like those cars. But if I had to pick the Audi. However buying a car as status symbol is even more douchey and pointless than buying one to impress girls. Drive them both and see which one you like more. Try some non German cars...

Why would you pick the Audi may I ask? It's certainly the less popular of the two, so I'd be interested to hear your thought

If you're going for status and to impress people Audi will do that over VW. Audi is a supposed luxury brand. Golfs are more often driven by women but that might be true of both of these. But again drive the cars and you will like how one feels, drives, looks and how people react I guess over the other.

Nothing else, really. I'm not really one of those people that drive the car for the thrill of it. It doesn't have to BE fast, it just has to 'look' fast, if you know what I mean? I'm also looking at a Mercedes hatch/coupe that's in a similar price range but I thought these 2 look a bit more unique.

I think the Mercedes would impress people more and is a higher status. They are also better made cars if they are similar year and miles. I like the Civic SIs but they are not a status car necassarily but they are much better made than the golf. You could get a mustang GT in that price range. They are fun to drive and I like how they look personally. Subaru make some decent stuff as well.

I would need more info (year, mileage, condition, exact model...) to say which was the best deal. Make sure whatever you buy get it inspected by an independent mechanic shop before buying.

They all have similar year, mileage, more or less conditions, but yes of course will have to get it inspected. So far because of the status/wow factor thing + uniqueness, I think I'm probably leaning towards the Audi TT, like you said it's more luxury than the golf. I'll have a drive of all of them and let you know.

I think it's the status thing... I know Civic is a great car, so reliable, economical, and I've been around them all my life. I just want to step it up a bit I guess.
