2016-17 Hype Train Playoff Chase!!!

4 losses for Grizz or OKC to catch up. That means if we go 9-9, they have to go 13-4 (14-4 for Thunder). Put in perspective thats a better win % than the Cavs and Rockets.

Rockets have 4-5 tough games left. We're not catching them barring a miracle.
Clippers have: currently playing boston, @memphis, @Jazz, Cavs, Jazz, @Spurs, Rockets
Grizzlies have: @Clippers, Hawks x2 - 2nd is b2b, spurs, @spurs, @GS, Thunder b2b after spurs. I think I can find 4 Ls in there.
OKC have: spurs x2, Jazz, @Toronto, @GS, @Rockets, @Memphis b2b (after Bucks)
Jazz Have: @Rockets, @OKC, Clippers, @Cavs b2b, @Clippers, @Spurs, @GS, Spurs

We are pretty likely facing the clippers. They are just a loss behind us. If we want HCA, we probably have to win both remaining games against them. Even that may not be enough.

Watching the TNT "Players Only" Postgame show...they're talking about how the Jazz and Rockets are the two scariest teams in the Western Conference Playoffs.
Bosh, Webber and Isiah Thomas had only good things to say about the Jazz, while Baron Davis was questioning how the Jazz's playoff inexperience might affect them.

We have the same record as the Celtics who are the #2 seed and three games behind the #1 seed in the East.

We are clawing to stay in fourth instead of sixth and are 12.5 games behind the #1 seed.

Ouch.

Nailed it. Great post.
I might rather fall to the 6th spot and face Houston without homecourt than face the clippers without homecourt.

Good news is all of those teams have lots of tough games left (though the jazz schedule is the toughest imo).

Like you said, those clippers games are must wins for HC. Hopefully when we play the Spurs at the end of the season and warriors the 1 and 2 seed will be locked up and they will rest dudes. Sadly, durant getting hurt might end up hurting us since now the race for the #1 seed is going to be tighter and both teams might need wins when they play us at the end of the season.

Best part is that no matter what happens we are basically guaranteed to make the playoffs so we will be getting some jazz playoff games regardless!!!

I think the next 3 games are the most important of the regular season. @Houston March 8th, @OKC March 11th and home for Clippers on March 13th.

None of the games are back to back. We should be fairly rested for each of these games and they are all against the teams we are close to in the standings. I think this will give us an idea of who we are as a team and maybe what we can expect in the playoffs. If we win all 3 I will be pretty excited about our team. If we lose all three that will be tough to swallow and might spell a first round exit. I expect us to be competitive and win 1 or 2 of them. I really hope none of them are a blowout against us. We really need to win against the Clippers to help our confidence against them since they are most likely our first round opponent.

None of these games are must wins but they are the biggest test for this team in a row and I think winning at least 1 of the 3 is a must. Although if we have starters missing these games again I think that could change things. But I hope Hill plays all three and JJ plays all three. We do need this team healthy and rolling for the playoffs.

My biggest concern about this team is that we are playing harder in the regular season than the other playoffs teams around us. They might be coasting more and we might be trying harder. The downside to that would be when the playoffs come they are going to step up their games and we might not be able to match it. Hopefully this team has another gear though and I think this is where the vets will really help us out.

Portland holds on against OKC. Thunder now 5 games back in the loss column. We'd have to really fall apart in order to fall to 7th.

So good and bad news...

Good news: Thunder lost tonight! Every loss to the other western contenders is important.

Bad news: Favors and Mack are OUT for Houston tomorrow. Hill and JJ are QUESTIONABLE

OKC losing another is awesome. I would not have predicted that one. We have a 29% chance per 538. Even if we beat Hou I still don't see us catching them barring a Harden injury and even that might not do it.

Who is this "Mack" person of whom you speak?

Almost a 100% chance we play without one or more of our starters in all of these games. It's just the way the season is going. If Fav's plays he won't be anywhere near 100% and I don't think Hill will either. Fact of the matter is that will probably be the case in the playoff's also. That being said it will be a good measuring stick with whoever is on the active roster because that is how the playoff's will go. If we can't get by a team shorthanded it will be a one and done in the first round imho.

Our record would make us the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference right now and pretty close to the #1 seed. Although if we played in the East we would probably be the #1 seed since it would be a much easier schedule.

Do you guys give the spurs any chance of taking the one seed? How would that affect your thoughts around the jazz seeding?

They had a chance to make up a game tonight but rested Leonard and Aldridge against the Kings. They got blown out, it was 37-13 to end the first. Warriors are only up 4 at half. Not sure why they aren't pushing for the 1st seed and home court.

I think they have a pretty decent chance of getting the #1 seed, maybe even more likely. Although the Spurs are more likely to rest players and not worry about getting the #1 seed.

I dont think any team or match up affects the Jazz. They dont have the luxury of worrying about their opponent or match ups in the first round let alone the second round. They just need to win as much as possible. They should concentrate on getting home court and then on winning the first round which is going to be hard.

But they came back and won.

Do your own research to support your argument, I'm not your monkey. Their average win against bottom 16 teams is 12 ppg and 15 of the 24 wins were by 9 or more points. Would be nice to win by more, but you do realize we have the fifth best net +/- in the league? I'm happy we are winging close games.

I know you ain't my monkey, and I would never say that. You are my bitch.

Anyway, I am guessing you don't get to watch many games and base your opinion purely on stats. I will admit, our record against bad teams is better than I would have predicted, but anyone who watches games knows we have a problem playing down to our competition, and that's what I was referring to.

And as predicted, Utah came to play in their first big game of this stretch. I am Cappy.
