What's new

Following potential 2017 draftees...

For what it's worth standing reach is important for defending the rim. Wingspan is much more important for defending on the perimeter, thus I'd be looking much more at wingspans for perimeter defenders(guards and wings) and at standing reach more for bigs that are likely to be asked to defend vertically in the paint.

Height and standing reach are correlated, being taller than someone doesnt cause you to have a higher standing reach than them.

I like Tyler Lydon and think he's a reasonable pick at 24. However, if Trey Lyles can get his act together, Lydon would end up being a bit redundant. I'd imagine the Jazz might feel the same way about Leaf. It's a question of how confident they are in Lyles and how committed they are to him at this point.

if the Jazz still believe in Lyles, then a big who can swing to the 5 or the 3 as well as play the 4 might look more attractive to the Jazz right now.

but at 6-3 he is short for a 2 guard. that is why i said if he can play the PG spot he will be great. The Jazz dont run a traditional pg any way.

Jazz not having a tradional pg is one of the reasons they will never be contenders.
Also read what you said about Tj Leaf and only a moron would say the last name angle. 2 different sports, 2 different kind of people. More of a TMZ comment then an actual hoops comment. So with your theory maybe the Jazz should only draft players with the last name of Jordan, Right? TJ Leaf is a good player and will be a good player in the nba, Book it.. I know these things because you see I live in America and watch a ton of hoops. Grew up witht he game. Shouldn't you be watching Aussie rules football instead of bball?

Actually I am a San Diego chargers fan. I don't care if they play 2 different sports. I have a bad taste in my.mouth for anyone named leaf. By the way how does that comment have anything to do with what religion I am.

The only religion around here is you and when God was handing out brains you thought he said trains and ran away and hid.

I want you to explain how a traditional pg is going to get the jazz a championship?

Personally I would rather have 5 players who can run the offense then 1 player who does.

Okay, now this thread is of minor interest to me. I have to really read it because who gives a **** about a late first round pick prospects while the season is going?

Who are the big men in our range? We need a backup center/PF. Preferable one that can play both positions who has a good motor. If he can be an agile rim protector like a Gobert light that would be good. It also might be good to have a stronger more sturdy back up center since Rudy can struggle banging with some of them too much. If he can shoot the three that would be a plus.

I like the idea of drafting the best player available but this late we might as well fill needs unless someone really good at another position slips.

Our needs might be very different by draft night though, depends on if we make a trade. I kind of hope we make at least one trade since we dont need all these late picks we have this year.

Our need is probably going to be wings

The Jazz only had 3 playable wings in the playoffs with Burks injured. Hood has injury issues too. We may not be able to keep Ingles.

JJ is a PF now. He isn't going to be playing SF anymore.

Hood will be healthy again. I think it is more likely than not Inlges will be back. It could go either way but based on everything I think it is more likely. If Hill comes back he and Exum can play SG. Burks might be traded but if he isnt he will be healthy and play again. JJ will play some PF but like the playoffs he will still play on the wing plenty. We might have needs here but I still think Bigs will be more of an issue.

Hayward, JJ, Hood, Inlges, Exum, Hill, Mack, and Neto all played wing in the playoffs at some point.

Favors is unreliable healthy wise. There is a decent chance we waive Diaw. Lyles was unplayable and that could continue. Withey is probably gone but either way he was inadequate to play back up center. That leaves us with Gobert as our only reliable big. I guess JJ as well but he is limited minutes and limited to matchups.
