What's new

Following potential 2017 draftees...

Lydon is an exceptional shooter. He's the best floor-spacing big in the draft, unless you believe in Bolden. The question is what Lydon can do when he gets chased off the line.

Bolden's % are extremely suspect. 56% FT shooter does not bode well for him. FT% are a better indicator of future 3pt shooting.

It's a question of upside. The Jazz want to put the ball in Lyles' hands and have him create out on the floor. The Jazz want Lyles to shoot 3s like he did his rookie season. They want him to defensive rebound. Can Kuzma do these things at the same level as Lyles? Maybe he can, but I'm a bit skeptical. I do think Kuzma can be a decent back up. He won't be the defender and rebounder that Bell is. He won't be the shooter that Lydon is. He won't be the shifty creator in the paint that Leaf is. He won't be the physical beast that Bam is. He won't be the pick-and-roll finisher that some of the others will be. Etc. But he can be a rotation player, imo.

He is the best and more complete basketball player than all those guys. His game translates the best. He is everything teams want in a modern PF and more. Anyone who passes up on him is going to look foolish.

Kuzma seems like a very good prospect and I would've liked him more if he stayed around a played more games at the combine. One good game then pulling out of the combine doesn't sit well with me. He's agent must've decided to do so and so they did. If he's around at the 30th pick, sure why not. But the 24th? That's a no for me.

He made a smart move. He played so well that he would have had to not miss a shot to out-do his performance. How do you top 8-10 shooting and 4-5 from three?

I saw a lot of nba potential with Kuzma early on(there are not a lot of big guys that can look as smooth/effortless he can look offensively) and was hoping he would become the next big time player for the Utes after Poeltl and Delon, for whatever reason that never happened. Frustratingly I don't know that he really improved from last year to this year, sure his PPG increased but that was expected. His outside shooting this past season was a big time disappointment(he posted a lot of vids of him working on his shot during the offseason but just didn't show the improvement as a Ute). I think there are some maturity issues with him that may pop up at the next level and I get frustrated with his IQ a lot, the easy play can be difficult for him at times. I wish him well, but I also have my concerns.

His 3pt shot improved a lot this year...

I like Kuzma but the hype is becoming a little too much. He had one good shooting game at the combine. He's still only #44 on DX top-100 players.

I see exactly what Cy is seeing with Kuzma. The problem is that the idea of him right now is much better than the reality of him. He does some things that players in the top 10 can't do. His movement is incredibly smooth for his size. His shot is quick and comes out of his hand seamlessly... it looks like it should be going in. He seems to have good feel and good passing and can even playmake a bit.

The problem is... we've seen this before, haven't we? Smooth, but not explosive athlete, whose shot looks good but doesn't fall, and is bad on D? I'm not sure how much I believe in the good-looking shot to become a good shot. Just like with Lyles, his whole game depends on it. If he can't hit it, he's out of the rotation very quickly.
