To the 0.7 muslims on this forum, I'm wishing you an awesome month.

The fast over here starts in almost an hour, so I'm getting all of my swearing out of the way while i can :)

How it is determined when the Ramadan starts? It looks like it is almost always in summer when your physiologic needs to drink and eat are way more difficult to control than in winter for example?
I remember I was refereeing a women's soccer game few years ago in July at sunny +33 C day and one of the teams was mostly Muslim girls from Lebanon. Other team asked for water break 20 min in the game and I was so impressed with these Lebanese girls who stood there in their black hijabs, black long sleeves and black long pants sweating like no tomorrow and yet refusing to have a sip of water because of their religion. This kind of devotion is just something beyond what I can understand.

Don't worry. When we draft Tacko there will be plenty of people to celebrate Ramadan with next year when the entire Muslim world unites behind Tacko Fall and the Utah Jazz.

Ramadan is a month on the Arabic lunar calendar. Starts with the new moon, and each year it falls on a different solar day.

Also, that's an unusual way for Lebanese girls to dress. Lebanon is quite open and modern.

Happy Ramadan to Dalamon and Addictionary!

Islamic calendar is Hegira Calendar, which is determined in accordance with the movement of the Moon and its year is shorter than Sun year about 10 days. So Ramadan comes 10 days earlier every year.

Thanks Dal and all. Even though I don't fast for eating and drinking,, I certainly fast spiritually during Ramadan. My grandma used to say that demons are chained during Ramadan and all the mistakes we make are angels' jokes on us. I wish it was true.

I noted that most Muslim women who play soccer here in Calgary wear long sleeves, long pants and hijabs no matter where are they from. Maybe it's just a team thing... say one girl wants to play with shorts and no long sleeves, she already would look different then the rest of her teammates.

That's weird. Here's the Lebanese u18 women soccer team:

Surprised that Canadian Muslims are more strict than their Arab counterparts.

I think he is saying that possibly that team I refed was more muslim than team in your picture.

Anyway, the point was that it is not easy to fast during Ramadan especially during hot and long summer days. And is it true that you can't have sex either?

But I was saying that MUSLIMS in Lebanon tend not to be the super-strict Salafi type. I've been to Lebanon several times. Beirut is really an awesome party city.

You can't have sex during the day, as that would invalidate your fast. I don't remember any prohibitions on sex after breakfast. However, when I was a kid, I used to avoid jacking off in Ramadan. I remember one time I made it the whole month.

happy Ramadan to those Muslims who don't wanna subject sharia law on the western world, and turn us into a caliphate

to those who wanna conquer us and subject us to sharia law! let's just say i dont wanna get an infraction and use your imagination.

and this is the truth I MEAN IT!

both sentences!

Interesting. How about dress code during Ramadan? Maybe women need to dress more modest, thus that soccer team girls were all covered up?

It is possible. Dress codes are a fusion of Muslim and local traditions. But ya, I can see women dressing more modestly in Ramadan.
