However, could tax rules play a role here?

If you are getting taxed 30% in Utah or 0% in Florida, that's a meaningful reason to go to Florida. Plus, there are beaches. His wife would be tan I guess. But I think that he would lose... a lot. He would be restarting in a big way. Miami doesn't even have a core. Whiteside isn't Gobert IMHO. He is older, a good shot blocker, but a worse defender. The management can get good players, but they don't build teams like the Spurs. It's a trendy move, but Dennis Lindsey and Quin Snyder will lead this team to a decade of greatness. Just watch. Miami? You can't even sweat in Miami.

It's a sellout move if that's where he goes. It would indicate to me that $$$ means more than winning. That is fine for many players, but I can't see Gordon being there and losing 50 games next year and being happy.
 
I don't believe it for a second. Boston is the only threat because A) The East is weaker and B) (and more of a threat than the prior reason) Brad Stevens is the coach.

Ofc tax plays a factor. Hayward is a republican, he probably hates taxes.

You think Miami would lose 50 games with Hayward? They were 41-41 without him. With him they would win 50 games especially in the East.

It's only state tax and it's only on home games and utahs tax rate is not 30%... the difference is about what we could offer in a contract.

Only a factor if he's picking between Boston and Miami and uses state tax as a tie breaker.

They were 30-10 in the second half. With him they certainly wouldn't lose 50 games next year in the weak east.

Don't states without an income tax make up for it with much higher property taxes?
 
You guys are also forgetting that he has a family, so it will depend on what his wife wants as well. Miami is a very good destination for them in my opinion.
 
Saying that Miami is as likely a destination as Boston, might just be saying Boston isn't that attractive a destination. Or, it might be putting pressure on Boston to make a deal to attract Hayward more.

I think this is a reach. At least I would hope so. You can't talk about wanting to be competitive, and then try to maximize every players salary with no regard as to how it affects your team's cap situation.

1-Doubt Chicago does that.
2-LeBron back to Miami is highly unlikely, so I doubt Hayward gambles on an unlikely scenario that might happen next year.

If Lebron leaves Cleveland again to try and take on the dubs, my money is on him joining up with pops/Kawhi/unnamed player.

I don't think Hayward goes to Miami without Riley making things happen first, and I don't think he has the assets to really pull it off.

Yeah, I've heard mothers of young children really appreciate the humidity/mosquitos/crime aspects of living in Miami.
 
I'm starting to get a little nervous. Locke, who often seems to be the weather vane about what's going on behind the scenes, now is pushing very hard that utah is obviously the best place for hayward, but stating that we are at a "disadvantage". Man. If Hayward leaves it's going to be hard to care about the NBA for a while.

I see this kind of thing a lot. Utah people call every other destination "crime ridden" as if that's a factor and that there is no place beside utah safe to raise a family lol. Hayward no matter where he signs will move his family to a very nice, safe gated community.
