Iguodala plans to seriously consider other teams in July, league sources told The Vertical. Prospective teams would need to show in meetings a vision to move toward contention to pry Iguodala from Golden State, league sources said. In four seasons with the Warriors, Iguodala has served as a playmaker and primary wing defender and established himself as a high-character leader.

Many teams are expected to pursue discussions with Iguodala, including the Warriors, Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Clippers, Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks, league sources said. Among teams around the league, there’s a belief that the value this summer for a two-way wing such as Iguodala could reach $20 million annually.

... not for $20M.

I think the time to get him was after we traded for Al Jefferson. Kind of perplexed that there was never talk about that (from the organization).

not sure how we do that, but I'd love to be part of running his annual salary up in order to have those ******** paying luxury tax through the nose.

Hell to the no, besides why would he want to leave the warriors any way. Not Jazz material and like he would come here too. Next!

He'd be an excellent pick up especially if he gave a bargain or we lose Hayward

fake news, just read few days ago that he is happy in GSW and is re signing with them.

"Iguodala has already indicated that his negotiation is almost already done and that he will re-sign with the Warriors, though I’m sure there are still deal points to be finalized.

Months ago a source indicated to me that the only real issue to be worked out was the number of guaranteed years."

They are going to be in luxury tax hell if they give him 20M. If he wants the money it might be better for him elsewhere. That said not sure I want the Jazz to give him 20M either.

I'd be happy to offer him $20M if it's a bluff that he'll never call or catch on to.

We can only afford to give him more than the MLE if we lose both Hayward and Hill, at which point it defeats the purpose. Thanks but no thanks.

If by "pursue" they mean we're going to call his agent, and ask "Will he take the MLE?" then yeah, they'll pursue him.

I pitched this a few weeks ago and a few laughed at me: https://jazzfanz.com/showthread.php?69002-New-Idea-Sign-Iguodala-in-Free-Agency

To repeat what I had said -

#1 GS really takes a big hit in their defensive flexibility if they lose Iguodala.

#2 He fits really well next to Gobert. He's athletic, can shoot the 3, and can defend anybody.

$20 is really steep, but I would pay him $15 per year if we can turn Favors into value elsewhere. If we want to contend with GS, we have to steal from them and be able to address them with more versatile defending.

Agreed. I think I would consider going as high as 3/50 for him. Max. But we'd have to not only opt out of Diaw and dump Burks, but also likely trade Favors. And even then, I'm not sure we'd have the room.

I would be really tight for sure. I think it all comes down to what we do with our assets. I list them here:

Favors
#24
#30
Diaw's expiring
Hood
Maybe our 2018 pick (we shouldn't trade the OKC 2018 because it's borderline lottery)

I think those are our most expendable assets. If we can turn some of those into the right asset, then we would potentially renounce guys holding our cap. A guy like Iguodala helps us much more than Ingles and much more than Favors in my opinion. And I would even say more than Hill but that's close.

Let's just say hypothetically we do the following:

We trade Hood, Favors and a pick for Kevin Love (our assets go to Cleveland so they get George).
Then Hayward leaves because I think he's leaving anyway (if I was a betting man).
Without Hayward's cap hold, you let Hill leave which he probably will to get more money anyway. Less cap hold...
We sign Iguodala and a guy like Collison or another good but not great PG. You hope and pray that one of our draft picks, DLeague scouring, etc. gets us a decent wing.

Exum, Collison, Neto
Burks, draft pick/DLeague find
Iguodala
Love, Lyles, Bolomboy
Gobert

In a perfect world, we keep Hood to add to that team. However, we probably can't get Love without Hood. And without Love or Hayward, why does Iguodala come here?

In my personal opinion, Golden State is unbeatable if they keep Curry, Durant, Klay, Draymond AND Iggy. If they lose Iggy, who plays that 5th spot in crunch time? McCall? Zaza? David West? That 5th spot is a major liability which Iggy has covered.

Yeah, but you seem convinced Utah should tank if they lose Hayward and Hill. I think you're going to be disappointed. They aren't going to do that to Rudy just one year after he finally got into the playoffs. They will give it a year or two at least before giving in to another full rebuild.

20 million for a guy who hasn't averaged ten points per game since 2013 and is 33? No, thanks. The guy gets 11 million now. 11 million is fair.
