Rubio traded to Jazz

In a vacuum the deal is good... if it pushes Hayward out cuz he wanted his bro then it sucks. I assume DL knows what he is doing... Ricky is at least fun.

Why would anyone agree to money before hearing other offers first? Hill has never had a huge contract in his career. This is his time to set up his family and his family's families for life.

Yep, I don't fault Hill at all for taking this route, but I am also very happy the Jazz didn't wait around.

Rubio is more fun, younger, and cheaper than Hill.

You don't think Lindsey has some idea how Hill is leaning or how much he wants?

You think he did this knowing Hayward would be pissed and leave if he did?

Give the front office a tiny bit of credit you guys.

Rubio lobs to Gobert. Gimme

How stupid would Gordon Hayward have to be to pass up 46 million dollars because the Jazz replaced George Hill with Ricky Rubio? He clearly didn't want Hill leaving for nothing, but he has to recognize what a positive situation it would be to play with a talented pass-first guy like Rubio, who is both younger and cheaper than Hill. 46 million solely because the Jazz have Rubio instead of Hill? That makes no sense.

I think Utah gave up a lot for a one-year rental of Hill. I hope and believe they could re-sign Hill as well in the wake of getting. The PG sellers market is really high and the PG buyers market is low as only a few teams need a PG. It is possible that Hill will not find as generous an offer as he wanted and could re-sign with Utah for a fair price. He has the ability to play off the ball and guard 2s, so he could play with Rubio.

I don't know why is everyone here is pissed about this trade..
I really don't think Rubio is much worse than Hill.
We gave up a non lottery pick for him.
Locke said today that Hill turned down a 20m/year extension a few months ago.. so Rubio is cheaper and Hill could be available around max level and I don't think he is a max level point guard
As of haywards point of view I can't imagine he is disappointed since I think Rubio could be more productive than Hill and Rubio fits our system better (thats just my opinion)
AAAAND unfortunately if all of this true and Hayward has his doubts about the Jazz, I believe DL knew of Haywards tendencies..

I think there are several variables here.

1) The Jazz may lose Hayward. Rubio allows them to still be competitive without Hayward, and a really good team with him.

2) We can now trade to get a player we couldn't if we had signed Hill. I'm pretty sure we will, so that adds an asset as well.

3) We can match Ingles easier, as he will have a bigger market Ike you're saying.

4) We can now play more uptempo, and I think Hayward wants to. We can still be elite defensively and run more.

Man, if the Jazz lose Hayward I hate having Rubio. Who on this team is going to ****ing score? The prospect of the Jazz scoring without Hayward is just mind boggling. Maybe it all works out even if they lose Hayward, but I'm not optimistic. Feels like Al Jefferson all over again.

Ricky Rubio is a very good NBA player who has been on the Twolves his whole career.

We got him for nothin.

We should be the opposite of doom and gloom.

I think it's kind of like the NBA draft, where you pick the best player regardless of positional needs. They had over 14 million to spend, and they got the BPA with that money.

Yeah 80 million would be a struggle. How much can SA offer? I thought people were saying there wasn't a team who could offer a huge contract to him.

We might as well open the Kiss Hayward Goodbye thread. What an unmitigated disaster! I absolutely hate this. And we gave them a first round pick for the pleasure of clearing space for them. WOW!

I'm glad that this means we aren't paying some **** contract to George Hill.

We've heard 3 things really about what Hayward is looking for from Utah

1. He prefers the Jazz keep Hill and Ingles
2. He would like the Jazz to be aggressive
3. He wants to win asap

The simple truth is that doing 1 AND 2 is almost impossible for the Jazz given their cap situation. So it looks like DL is banking on 2 being enough (with the possibility of bringing Ingles back as an added bonus). Now the question of whether this particular move helps with three is up for debate. All we can really do is trust DL. I don't think he would run the risk of losing Hill if keeping Hill was the only way to keep Hayward.

I view this as trading Hill for Rubio. I don't really care about the pick. Hill much better fit. Cy hit nail on the head about Jefferson trade. I wanted Boozer to walk and let Millsap step up. I'm never a big fan of acquiring talent that doesn't fit just to acquire talent. I think the fit of Hill is worth $7M more per year. We lack shooting and now have 30 mins per game of someone who can't shoot (coupled with Gobert). If someone can reference the last time this franchise had any moderate success with a PG who couldn't shoot.

No point in letting a pick go to waste, and Utah had cap room that was about to be wasted. And none of us knows what is happening with Hill. It's possible he is still in our plans, or it is possible he we might not have even had the option to keep him, and this was an insurance plan.

You are jumping to conclusions that may or may not be true.
