Rubio traded to Jazz

Ricky Rubio for the OKC pick vastly improves the team. The west has improved to the point that I think OKC is going to struggle to make the playoffs.

Real possibility. Also a real possibility it could be a relatively prime 1st round pick in the 18-22 range.

From Twolves fan kimjongslice on Reddit.

Ummm Rubio's teammates generally love playing with him. He's not going to take shots away from you, he's a great defender, and he'll set you up nonstop.

This was in the context of whether it meant Hayward would leave because of the swap.

I really don't think this has that much effect on Hayward. I think when he has been saying "sign Hill" it mostly meant "if I'm going to stay on this team don't just let that kind of productivity go away". I think Ricky can at worst be slightly less effective than Hill was for us, but at a much cheaper contract. Also if we bring Hayward back and the roster stays relatively healthy I think Ricky will make all the other players better than Hill could so could be a win-win for us. I thought Hill was at his best for us when we needed him to kinda be the man stepping up when we had key injuries which was most evident when Hayward was down early and he played out of his mind.

"Hey Utah you have expiring cap space tonight. There is a unique situation where Minnesota is a bad situation for the best passer in the NBA who is on a great contract and only 26 yo. They only want a lottery protected pick next year."

"Don't do it because you might be able to give George Hill $20+ million dollars tomorrow"

Is Hayward so disgusted by Rubio? The dude will get him buckets all game. If he can become best friends with Hill in one season with Hill in a hospital room for half of it, then he can become friends with someone else.

Now we can be a bit more flexible with another move if we choose, and can definitely bring back Ingles.

Is it being cheap or smart though to not sign a 31 year old PG to a 4 year max deal?

Why would a player who has never been an All-Star and is 31 even be considered a max player? At most Hill should get what Rubio is currently getting, around $14m per, which would be a huge raise for Hill, who made $8m last season. There is no way he deserves more than a 100% raise.

Like I said earlier today, I can see a reality where the Jazz are better with Rubio over Hill, I just don't think it's likely.

This feels like the last T'Wolves trade for Al Jefferson. Talented player, but bringing him (a square peg) into a round hole. The fit feels wonky unless the Jazz change how they play or that Rubio 2nd half shooting is now the norm.

Maybe it is, Jason Kidd improved his shot as he got older. I like the trade only if the Jazz don't sign Hill. Hill was foolish to turn down 80 million and his agent deserved to be fire. Did they not know this draft was PG top heavy.

I don't know what to think if Hayward is basing his decision on if Hill is returning. I doubt it but if he is then he isn't really about winning. Signing Hill at 20+ million would gut our roster when Exum, Hood come up for their new contracts. Jazz couldn't make any other deals either.

Overall, I like the move but I am not in love with it.

Another trade could be in the works that changes our financial outlook. Lots of things could happen, and you don't even know if Hill is going to be an option. If we lost Hill without some insurance, then we'd hear nothing but bitching about how Utah never does nothin but sit on their hands blah blah blah.

Like I said, we just traded a pick that could very well turn to trash and used our leftover cap space that people have been bitching and moaning about all season.

No matter what a GM does, fans gonna bitch.

That's great if I were one of the ones bitching about the Jazz sitting on their hands -- here I'm arguing that our best course is sitting on our hands. Hard to discuss when you're conflating different arguments. I'm fine with insurance policy but Rubio isn't an insurance, he's a replacement. Patrick Beverly is insurance. Teodosic is insurance. Rubio is replacement.

I think Hayward and Hill bromance is grossly overblown. I don't think Hayward absolutely wanted Hill in order to stay. I think he simply did not want to come back to a team with Shelvin Mack running the point. It doesn't mean it has to be Hill.

Great move to pick up Rubio for nothing. I'm glad we used the cap space. I'm glad we held on to it.

I was nervous about Rubio but I am excited now to see a real passing PG in our system. Hopefully his shooting at the end of the season wasn't a fluke and can keep improving.

Also we probably will will make another move and this helps. We could flip Rubio now or later if needed. We could still re-sign Hill and everyone else from our team and make other moves. Maybe Hill and Rubio could play together. Although I don't we sign Hill now but a lot could still happen in the next few days!

This was a good trade that we won. This was a great way to use the cap space.

Is Hill a better individual player than Rubio? I'd say so, but I would also be confident in saying that Rubio makes Hayward, Gobert, Hood, Favors, everyone a better player than Hill could.

I hope that this is just an opening move. I am tired of hand sittin and cakk bakkin. **** that noise
