[Jones]BREAKING: Jazz willing to engage Celtics in S&T talks: But Gordon Hayward must agree

I don't have a problem trading a first for a guy who has three years left on his contract and should be getting paid 15M per season if he were a free agent now.

Not to mention there is no incentive for the teams with the cap space to offer Boston s*** for Crowder, Smart or Bradley because they know that Boston has to shed salary. Lowball city.
This is the biggest point. Boston has little leverage. Plain and simple - if they make this deal, they get Hayward. They probably can keep some of those small contract guys they would have to waive if they trade Crowder over Smart since he makes a couple million more.

Just do it Hayward and Ainge. We will throw you a 2nd rounder or two.

Nothing gets done without Jazz paying more. Danny and Bartlestein already stole the biggest chip.

Jazz have no leverage, Boston has neither need nor urgency.

Haywood and Bartlestein's willingness doesn't change the equation.

It is the Jazz who have an urgent need and that puts Danny in the power position.

I agree with most of what you are saying but there is urgency... they have to resolve this prior to signing Hayward. They are already going to get 75 cents on the dollar for whatever they trade... Hayward can help us here by saying do me a solid. Ainge risks damaging the relationship with Hayward but likely doesn't risk losing Hayward. It is worth something to them. We could send them a couple second round picks which is less than they'd get for Ctowder but it is a limited market and averyone knows that for once they have this ******* in a bad position. I don't expect anyone to do him a favor. I'm guessing DL has much more social capital built up.

I'm not a cap expert, but if a team needs to be under the salary cap to make a trade with boston and provide any relief, I only see 6 or 7 teams that can provide it. I'm sure there are reasons it may not work for some which would reduce this list further. For example Brooklyn is one of the teams and I can't imagine they would have assets to give to boston. http://www.spotrac.com/nba/cap/

Someone with some more know how might want to chime in.

I don't think that Chi, Ind, or Bkn are likely to step in and give Boston any assets or help them construct their roster

The interesting thing about this dance is neither side has leverage but both have urgency.

We should at very least do a sign and trade for Hayward because of the cap asset, but stictches indicated above that they have motivation to do one too to operate above the cap. Not sure they really can though... this is a weave of cap complexity and I am at capology level 101.

Exactly. The teams with cap space won't give a first because the first is too valuable. The teams who would love crowder would have to give back salary.

I think they may move smart instead but it will be awkward as hell between crowder and Hayward.

If I can summarize the situation I would do it like this:

1. Boston is not going to gift us Crowder or Bradley or Smart. As long as there is market for them, they would get the best offer that's on the market.

2. There is a small advantage the Jazz provide to the Celtics as a potential suitor for Crowder/Bradley/Smart - they get to keep their full mid-level exception(if I'm not mistaken, somebody correct me if I'm wrong, please). This is a very small +, but if what we offer is close to what others offer Boston might be willing to do it.

3. If Boston wants to keep all of Bradley/Smart/Crowder, the Jazz are the only team that can enable that through sign and trade of Rozier+other stuff. The question is how much value is it worth it for Boston to keep them as opposed to getting an asset for one of them? Can we get 1 first? Or 2? Maybe a first and a second? I don't know, this is where DL has to earn his money and correctly gauge what the trio is worth to Boston. A possible trade would be Rozier+Jackson+BOS2018 first(or LAC 2019 first)?

I tend to think #3 will happen. We get Rozier, Jackson, a trade exception and possibly a pick. Boston holds on to Crowder/Smart/Bradley because no team is going to give anything of value for them right now knowing Boston's need to shed salary.

I'm opting for a 'conspiracy theory' approach on this. I think Crowder probably wants out. But this situation has gotten sufficiently sticky for everyone, and finding the right terms of a détente for all parties is difficult.

I'm sure DL is putting the breaks on anything involving Bradley, Smart, and 1st round picks... otherwise I think this deal would be done. I also think he (and others) want to see Danny buckle.

No, they can't. Not enough space without letting guys go.

Edit... Oops I guess I didn't quote the person to whom I was responding. Oh, well.

Do a pick swap for Crowder, top 5 protected for next year. Danny feels like he wins.

Jazz take trade exception, get Love. Have a frontline of Gobert, Love, and Favors with two of them on the court at all times. Swing section of Crowder, Hood, Jingles, Burks, Exum, and Mitchell, with a pg rotation of Rubio/Exum.

We now have a better record than Boston. They can go screw.

Pick swap with their Lakers pick, if ours is higher, top 5 protected.

He is worked up because Locke and Checkettes questioned his reporting on Hayward.

His reporting was most probably trash anyways. He's piggy backing on Hayward leaving to boast about a fake report that seems slightly more plausible but still incredibly unlikely even now.

If it was correct, DL deserves to be fired yesterday.

The Hayward saga gets weirder everyday... by mid season he will demand a trade back to Utah.

Did anyone catch the salt DL threw low key at Hayward last night. When asked to talk about it on the SL he just said we love Gordon Robyn and the girls wish them the best... abruptly stops and just lets it hang there as if to say and that's all I have to say about that. He is a super pro and is clearly feeling completely burned by it... wants to throw Gordon under the bus but his class won't let him.

This is a big deal. Picking up crowder allows us to pivot really well.
