What's new

Cleveland Cavaliers (28-8) @ Utah Jazz (23-16) - 7 PM MT

I feel like we are going to go on a monster run now. Team is healthier than its been all season, Hayward had a break out monster game against the champs,
Rudy is on another level. I think Hayward and Gobert both make the all star team if we win the next 5.

.

What a huge win. Granted, the Cavs played some pretty stupid ball but still, they are an elite team for a reason. I about threw something in the TV when they went on that 17-0 run, but hey, a 16-0 run to counter it was just absolute greatness.

Lebron or Harden? Somehow those guys never seem to disappear in a game like Hayward.

I think "seem" is the imperative word in your sentence.

I think this is because we are watching Gordon 82 games a year. Every great player sometimes "disappears" We just don't notice it because we are watching highlight reels.

Read some Clutch Fans regarding Harden disappearing last year.

Hayward is amazingly consistent. He gets cold like anyone else, or suffers from matchups or gameplans. But look at his game-to-game output.

Yeah, I can't not watch all 30 or w/e teams and neither can you I'm sure, so we can't know what is happening game to game for every team, but we don't need to see that to realize there's a big difference between a true max guy like Harden and Hayward. You ever see Hayward putting up 40+ points with double digit assists? Hayward has never even had a 40 point game in his career.

Hayward is a true max guy. He lived up to his max contact and almost every team in the NBA would give him a max deal if they could.

But yes Hayward is not on Lebron's level and never will be. He is not on hardens level offensively but does a lot of other things better like defense. I'm not sure why fans are so hard on him for not being the best player in the NBA. He is really good, why not appreciate what we have?

Name someone who is on Lebron's level?

And Harden has never played defense for a game in his career. . .

Yes. Although the discussion was regarding whether players like Harden ever disappear, so I'm not sure how an occasional 40+ game helps your position.

Hayward does not have the tools to be top 10, critiquing him for not being such is nonproductive. So we have to "settle" for a top 20 player.

Hope you are right, they are all winnable.

My fear on the All-Star game is that coaches will see a top 4-6 team and agree that a Jazzman should be an All-Star. But it is unlikely that any coach will vote for 2 Jazzmen. Each of the 15 head coaches will vote for Rudy or Gordon and they both miss out.

Does anyone know when coaches vote? It must be after the starters are chosen -- when is that?

kind of why there is this award called "Finals MVP"

Yeah, like I said MVP stands for most valuable player. Lebron is the most valuable player in the league. You wanna give out just an award for regular season or just for playoffs, hey that's great. None of those guys are more valuable than the best player in the world. When all is said and done, neither Curry nor Iggy is going to be in the conversation for best player in NBA history. Lebron will be. As long às we're adding labels, MVP of the decade. Lebron.

Apparently we really demoralized the Cavs because they lost again last night to the Blazers. Or maybe Korver has destroyed the team.

Or the Cavs got delayed in SLC airport into the wee hours of the morning because of weather delays.

Name someone who is on Lebron's level?

I'll add to this. Name one other player who, with the same supporting cast, would have taken the 2006-07 Cavaliers to the finals, or subsequent Cavalier teams into deep playoff runs (let alone playoffs altogether)prior to the time LeBron left for Miami.

Yeah, but one is still a road game on a road trip and the other is still at home.

Interestingly, the Blazers probably did get more rest than the Cavs.

The Cavaliers, who lost to the Utah Jazz 100-92 on Tuesday night, were delayed in getting to Portland but finally arrived about 3 a.m. Wednesday.

The Trail Blazers beat the Lakers in Los Angeles 108-87 on Tuesday night. They flew to Seattle, and players spent the night there. They flew into Portland by midday Wednesday and stayed at a hotel until game time.

I don't know what time they got into Seattle but probably at a reasonable hour and then got some rest while the Cavs were still getting into Portland.

I'm hoping Gordon gets voted in so that he feels good about where things are going, and Rudy gets snubbed so he's pissed and plays even fiercer the second half of the year

So... I loved this game and kept it on my DVR. I just watched it again in preparation of the season. It was a GREAT game. Do ya'll remember the second quarter when Jingles came in to guard Lebron? He poked a ball off of Bron Bron and out of bounds. The turnover was one of a 1/2 dozen plays where Jingles frustrated Lebron during the game. Not only that, but I watched Jingles pretty much shut down Korver as he later repeated in the playoffs. Point #1...It will be good to have him back.

I made a few observations from this game. Observation #1 based off of the re-watch... I won't miss Hill that much. I was a Hill homer last season, but he disappeared for long stretches. When he was on he was brilliant. But that lasted about 20 of the 80 games tbh. He was injured for 40 games and he disappeared completely during the playoffs. 60 games from Rubio where he acts like the motor to our offense will be a HUGE upgrade from a 'here today, gone tomorrow', $57 million Hill. Bravo DL for having the guts to let him walk and for bringing in a true upgrade.

Observation #2. Hayward did a TON to setup our offense. He was truly critical to how we operated. He helped create the space on the floor that we needed to hit around 50% from the 3 point line that night. With him gone, Rubio (who teams don't respect his shot), and Hood being streaky... I am going to be very interested in how the Jazz create space on the floor. I think that will be one of the most critical questions for the year as far as the offense goes.

Observation #3. When Hayward sat, we moved the ball a LOT MORE than when he was on the floor. I watched Hood catch the ball and immediately differ to Hayward multiple times. Hayward set Hood up a couple of those just 3 seconds later... but when Hayward sat, Hood spotted up while Joe Jesus, Jingles, and Favors all moved the ball really well. We moved away from ISO play to a much more interactive style on the offensive end. I have to believe that Rubio will lead that style better than Hill and that without Hayward we are going to have to build trust in each other in a big way. Again, it will be fascinating to see how much ISO goes to Team Ball with the group we have.

Observation #4. Quin's comments are the best! I loved hearing them again. He really is detail oriented and helped Hayward grow from Teen Girl Squad 'The Ugly One' to 'Dem Olda Boys'. They asked Quin "how good is Gordon Hayward?" Quin said something along the lines of 'Hayward was great in a few games last year. But this year he is on a higher tier in more games and for longer stretches during games'. I agree with that a ton. A lot of people on this board say that Hayward isn't a game changer. It's because two years ago and beyond he rarely reached that level. It really was only the last 18 months that he started to get to that place and stay there for stretches longer than a final 3 minutes. Getting there required Quin and his staff. I have faith in Quin's Staff like I have faith in the Churro.

Observation #5. Lyles was promising when he could shoot. Too bad he didn't make a basket at an important part of any game from the All star break on. Remember how we traded him to get Donovan Mitchell in the 'it's impossible to trade into the 2017 draft'? Bless you Denver. It's the best thing Denver sports has done since 2013 at least *cough-GoBert-cough*.

Observation #6. Gobert is Hellalong!

Observation #7. The Jazz defense was fun to watch last year and that was with Mack, Hood, Lyles, and an unhealthy Favors. We are going to be tough as Chuck Norris' water tight Anis.
Re-watching that game just got me pumped about the year again. Go Jazz!
