What's new

Jazz vs Maccabi tonight at 7 PM MST

Maybe it's still heretical to say at this point, but I really do mean this in a good way:

I see a lot of Tyrone Corbin in Royce O'Neale: size, athleticism, movement quite similar; doesn't wow you, but does a lot of things good enough to contribute productively. Seems likely to be a better passer/ball-handler.

We'll see how it goes the rest of the pre-season with his shot. I'm rooting for him to make the NBA even if it's not with the Jazz.

(I had written off Bolomboy during the summer, but he sure looks good now -- I don't know how Quin/DL will decide.)

Exum's value as a player increases the more you speed up the pace of play. He was made to run the floor and pass the ball over the top of defenders. It's when there's no movement and the pace is slow that he gets stifled. He really moved the ball well tonight and only had 1 turnover vs. 6 assists.

Rubio apparently had 6 TOs?

I would love to see a lineup of DM, X ,AB, B-boy, and Stifle. Run Run Run. Pace could be really high with that lineup.
Might not be any good tbh but would be interesting and entertaining.

Are there many better backcourt names than 'DMX'?? And yes I think DMX beats out 'splash bros'.

I mean, its even got its own theme song.

BTW, that's two games Exum has looked better than Rubio in. I keep stressing - with our scheme and with Favors+Gobert front court, Rubio is a liability on offense. Dante is much more dynamic player for what Snyder wants them to do. He's also reading the game much better than before right now. True, it's a non-NBA competition, but if he keeps it up he's going to demand time. IMO if this is what Exum is even against NBA competition, Quin will have very hard time answering the question mid-February about whether he's thought about making a change at the starting PG spot.

You think Quin has the stones to make that call?? Big, big call.

I think if Dante plays like this for the remainder of the preseason (yes its preseason I know) the FO may try and sign him to an extension if they can get him for $8Mil-14Mil/yr.

I think Dante might bite on 4yrs $40Mil. Although he would want to be sure of his playing time and spot in the side so there is no re-occurrence of the Mack situation.

Again, not really.

Cy, yes really. Rubio hasn't hit a shot in 2 preseason games, not a single one. his assist to turnover ratio over the two games is 9 to 7 whilst Dante's is 9 to 1. Ricky has played good D sure, but so has Dante. It's clear that X has played better in these 2 games at least. Whether this continues when the season starts is the big question.

I know we don't wanna come down on our new boy Ricky Rubio, but let's call it what it is.

The offense and defense just look better with Rubio in. He has also been with the team for a grand total of 3 weeks. He is the much better player.

Good post, but WAY to early to worry about.

If 20 games into the season we are better with X than rubio then let's talk. And honestly, that would be a fantastic problem to have.

Ask yourself the question Cy, what would you have done if Dante had been the one with the 6 turnovers, and still hasn't hit a shot? Let me answer that for you, you'd be all over him.

The offense sure did look fantastic when Rubio turned the ball over all of those times. We all know Ricky is the overall better player, but these two games in a vacuum, Dante has been better, period.

Yeah because Dante doesnt have the intangible affect that Rubio does. Rubio can have garbage individual stats but still put his stamp on the game.

Exum has the ball in his hands cuz that's his thing. Hes pretty worthless w/out it. He's been efficient so far against uber non-NBA talent. He won't be this efficient in the league, which will lead to him having the ball less and making fewer plays. He should make way more plays than the last few years tho, which is great, cuz that's why he was drafted and why I still like him as a player.
