Utah Jazz (5-7) vs Brooklyn Nets (5-7) Tonight 7pm

Not a pretty game, but the box score is pretty damn interesting. . .

Favors - 24 points, 12 rebounds (6/7 free throws)

Rubio - nearly a triple double - 10 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals

Mitchell - led all scorers for the Jazz - 26 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists (5/5 from the line)

Hood (as a 6th man again) - 19 points, 5/8 from 3 point line

Jingles - 17 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3/7 from 3 point line

Sefalosha - 9 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals (4/6 free throws) +17 was best of the night

Imagine having a healthy Gobert and JJ instead of Udoh and Jerebko. I think this should be the starting game plan each game. Mix up the lineups a little bit, but stagger Gobert and Favors instead of pairing them together. IMO, Sefalosha at the 4 was the key to making everything work.

I agree. It's obvious we need to stagger Rudy and Favors. Give Rudy 30 minutes, Favors 18 and 6-8 at the 4; Then you have 40-42 minutes to divide up between JJ and Sefalosha at the 4, even give a few to Jingling at the 4, depending on the lineups. This leaves little for Jerebko and Udoh -- they get in as needed.

Favors impressed. Others did too. Seems we have an issue with Gobert vs Favors because Gobert and Favors doesnt work.

Nah, We just need to learn how to play 2 talented players together better. They have done it before they can do it again. Players just need to hit their open shots and they will as the season goes on.

So, Mitchell with 26 pts. on 10/18 shooting in 25 minutes. How many 25 pt. games is that? Pure baller.

I don't think it's possible not enough space on the court for that offensively, Rudy takes up too much of the paint so Favs has to Jack up 3s

I definitely agree that Sefalosha at the 4 helped a lot. At the same time, I think another pretty big factor was Rubio being able to use bounce passes in the pnr with Favors. Right now, Favors is probably a much better roll man for him, because he can take the kinds of feeds Rubio is comfortable and well-practiced with. Spacing is undoubtedly an issue with Rubio and Gobert, but it seems that Rubio's instinctual bounce passes happen to be incompatible with Gobert, who needs lobs. When you take away that instinct passing, and make Rubio think about the pass, it kind of takes away that magic he brings. It may be that Rubio just needs a lot longer to mesh with Gobert, because he's not only learning new personel, he's learning entirely new habits about how to pass the ball (bounce vs lob).

I think Sefalosha at the 4 was a major key, but I'm not sure it was the singular key.

In one of the national podcasts(I don't remember which one, sorry) they said Ricky doesn't like throwing lobs and he likes bounce passes. Can you guess who is great catching the ball off bounce passes and doesn't prefer lobs? Can you guess who loves catching lobs and can't catch bounce passes?

That's in addition to the non-shooting pnr combo...

People still don't seem to get it - the Rubio-Gobert combo is a much bigger problem than the Favors-Gobert combo. (Favors still doesn't help with spacing for the Rubio-Gobert pnr, but the main culprit in this combo not working are the two non-shooters directly involved in that action).

Favors as a 5 is a real thing.

He is so much more versatile than Gobert on offense and tonight showed that Gobert grabs a few rebounds that Favors could gobble if he was on the floor by himself.

Would love to see what Favors looked like with a lot of games at center - playing with starters.

I have been saying this since we had Millsap. He's a center in the current NBA.
