HoopsHype: O'Conner enamored with Brandon Knight

no but I can see that Knight is not Dwill2. I think he falls in love with players and takes them higher then they should go all the time like Gordon Hayward, Eric Maynors, and Kosta Kufos. These are players that he could trade down to get. You don't get the #3 pick in the draft then go after maybe the 8 best player.

Gordon Hayward was drafted right about where he was projected. Koufos fell a LOT, and Maynor was a pick in the 20s and has played up to that draft position.

Usually arguments have examples that help, rather than hurt your argument.

Knight > Kanter

Knight seems like a low risk project to me. The guy has been called a gym rat, has a high IQ, is a good shooter, and already has a clutch gene. He just needs to learn the game a little more and get a bit stronger and he could be a top 10 PG.

OH and he turns 19 in December.

u cant be a contender without taking risks, if u wanna enter playoffs for next 5 yrs but being far from a contender as we were in the last 20 yrs, then pick knight over kanter

Kanter > Knight

What has Kanter ever done to be considered top 3 pick and be better than Knight? It was Knight, who carried his team to #3 rankings, while Kanter didn't play a single minute. The guy came in as a 17 year old freshman, and led his team to #3 in entire NCAA, competing in a League, where nearly everyone was older than him. Kanter has not played ball in a while. His biggest accomplishment is being MVP of a junior U18 championship. You know who else has this accomplishment: Kosta Koufos. And Kosta was not a bad prospect (sure he turned out to be a bust, but he wasn't a bad prospect at the time), but he was not top 3 prospect. Kosta even had a solid season in NCAA, which Kanter cannot claim. But Kanter has literally done nothing of note. Knight took his team to #3 at very young age. Knight should be our guy.

Knight would be great if we had the 6th pick. But, remember this draft has three potentially great players Kanter, Williams, and Irving. After that there is a drop. Knight would be good if we could get another pick this year or next and with the 12 get Jimmer. Kanter will be a great pro his D is suspect. That is the problem with KOC he just doesn't get the whole GM job whatsoever.

Why can't Knight be great? His numbers and accomplishments in the NCAA tourney are actually not much worse than Wall's were, and he was more than a year younger. At that age a year makes a huge difference developmentally. Knight might turn out to be great, although it will probably take a couple of years. But having a 17 year old kid come to NCAA and take his team to #3 ranking certainly does not preclude greatness in his future, but more likely to be indicative of one.

I agree

Kanter is the second coming of Al Jefferson. We don't need another Al. Go for Knight.

Knight has ridiculous amount of potential, it's no wonder why KOC is in love with him.

That said he is really young and might not have as big of a impact as people expect. But man he looks like a elite all star player in 3-4 years.

Are you kidding me? We don't need another consistent 20-10 guy who's top 10 in blocked shots... and near 20 in PER.

There are only like 5 of those guys in the league...

Are you crazy? Can you imagine how bad *** this team would be if Al Jefferson had a twin brother with the exact same skill set (not to mention 3 point range) and they both ran the floor at the same time?

Edit: Not to mention a guy who played 82 games

And how is that Hayward pick working out that we all criticized him for (well, except for Honzward)? And what got us in the position to pick this high? A fantastic trade of an injured and disgruntled Deron Williams. Oh yeah, and they also threw in Favors and Harris. I'd say KOC has earned a nice bonus this year. If he believes Knight is going to be a franchise PG, I trust him. After all, he did a pretty good job of evaluating PG's 6 years ago and deciding he couldn't be content to stay at #6 and draft Felton.

As many have noted, Harris is already 28. He's not the PG of the future. It would be nice to trade his high salary to a contender or just let it come off the books in a couple of years. In the meantime, Knight could step in and play as the backup. He could also pick up minutes in a 2 PG set because of his shooting ability. Knight and Hayward at the 1/2. That could be scary good in a few years. Both can shoot. And both can defend. Imagine what that outside shooting would do for the inside game!

I'd almost be for taking Knight/Singleton if there are concerns over Kanter's knees or Williams' ability to play the 3.

PG: Harris/Knight/Watson (no Price...YEAH!)
SG: Hayward/CJ (will anyone take Bell?)
SF: Singleton/CJ/Evans
C: Jefferson/Favors/Okur
PF: Millsap/Favors

I really like that lineup. Knight, Hayward and Favors all have all-star potential; just give them a couple of years. Jefferson and Millsap are borderline all-stars already. Since the Jazz wouldn't need scoring with the other 4 starters, Singleton would be great to have as a defensive stopper. Not that he's a shot-blocker, but he'd be like the AK of 7 years ago.

If all those attributes about Knight are true, I wouldn't be disappointed in him at all. Work ethic combined with skill is the dream combination in this league.

Still pretty torn between him and Kanter though, when factoring in their best possible upside. Probably lean towards Kanter just because great bigs are more valuable, but I like just about everything I hear about Knight and wouldn't be upset if he's the pick (not counting any future issues between now and draft day).

Knight is a turnover machine of a point guard that shoots 42%. You either trade up for Williams or trade down and pick up Knight at 5 or 6. I am not totally against Knight but he is far from the sure thing, drafting him at 3 would be a total amateur move by KOC.

Nice mischaracterization of Knights season. How the hell did you get 3 reps .. multiple screen names?
