What's new

Nikola Mirotic

I'm always wary of buying high on a hot streak from a player. Why take his 15 games this year as representative of what Mirotic is rather than the 3 years of utter mediocrity he showed previously. Count me as a skeptic.

This. You can argue that the way they use him has changed etc. etc., but he is very likely to be a 35-40% 3 point shooter going forward. The 46% is not real.

I'm also skeptical they will get a 1st from Detroit or Portland without eating the Leuer or Leonard contracts. Both teams have bad cap situations and both should be looking to cut salary not add to it. I'm guessing that he would not waive his no trade for Detroit, so they'd be guaranteeing that money.

I'm not giving a 1st even if we get to dump AB.

Someone else can overpay if they would like.

It is widely known that the Pelicans will have to use their first rounder to dump Asik. Favors is an expiring big who can actually help NOLA's playoff chances. They get deeper into the playoffs with Favors, they re-sign Boogie with Asik being gone, and Pelican fans are happy.

As for the first, it goes to Chicago with Joe Johnson to get us Mirotic. We don't have to lose Hood, Exum or our first. All we have to do is agree to take Asik with Mirotic.

I'd rather have the NOLA pick than Mirotic and it is not close.

Oh, I am guessing that this has already been posted but all Chicago has to do to get rid of Mirotic's trade veto power is pick up the second year on his contract. Most teams he is being traded to would want that anyways. So where he wants to go does not matter.

This has actually been refuted (not entirely sure who to believe). According to Dan Clayton, there is actually no mechanism by which a team can deny their option mid season, meaning Chicago can't simply "pick up" the second year right now. Instead, they would have to ammend the current contract, which would require a mutual agreement with Mirotic.

So, he maybe does keep his veto power, after all.

Marc Stein reported it, so I take his knowledge over Dan Clayton, no offense to Clayton.

Interesting. You'd rather have Asik and a pick around 20 than Asik and Mirotic?

NO is a 15-20 pick and yes.

Mirotic is not worth a 1st and expiring contracts imo. They will not get that from Portland or Detroit... both will stick them with an ugly contract.

Dan is good with CBA stuff. It has been reported they could do what stein says so I’m inclined to say Dan is wrong, but who knows. I’d make damn sure I knew if I was the jazz.

Good points. In light of the fact that New Orleans is strongly pushing for a wing, I wish we could trade Burks for Asik, Ajinca and that pick. Only puts us about $6 million behind next year but I don't know if New Orleans does that. I really wish I knew what value Burks has on the market.

Interview in Spain.

Do you see yourself finishing the season in Chicago?

If I focus on January 15 I would not be playing like that. The better I play, the more options I will have. There are things that are not in my power, although this year I can choose whether to leave or not. If a team appears that I like, well, but I do not approve the transfer and that's it. This transmits me tranquility. From mid-month we will see what happens and I will do my best for my future. The same as the Bulls. They have always said that they will look for the best for the franchise.

From what I interpret, if an aspiring team or with options to enter the playoffs is interested in you, there could be a next move.

I agree with what he says. My name is and will continue sounding for a possible transfer. If I see that a team appears that I can fit in, have an important role and the Bulls also want it ... why not? This is the NBA and it can happen or not. The more you think about it, the worse. When the time comes, some decision will have to be made.

I suppose that the ovations received by the United Center will have helped him.

It's amazing how people work. In my first game there since my return I remember listening to some whistles. But after several meetings you can not imagine what cheers I received. They even sung me about "MVP, MVP". The people are now very busy with me. I perceive that they want me to stay.

Does this affection of the public have an effect on your decision?

No. It's what I say, the stand one day is like that and the other shows the opposite. For my confidence it is important to feel that warmth, but I can not let that influence my decision.

will the jazz make a run at Jabari parker in the off-season?
No, they have to trade for him. It would be very difficult to clear the cap room needed to offer him a max, which would be a huge risk since it could be all nothing.

If they won't trade him (for a decent offer) I think it's safe to say they would match any offer he got.

What it would take to sign Parker to a near max contract in the summer:
- trade either Rubio or Burks for an expiring
- trade Hood
- Hood and/or Rubio/Burks trades only brings back a draft pick
- renounce Favors in the summer
- renounce Joe Johnson in the summer

And after all that, we still might need to do some minor deals to get there.

The more bidders that get involved (Portland, Detroit) the less likely we are to make the deal, I think. Those two are both playoff teams with much lower and less important first round picks and a greater incentive to shed them in order to improve.

So, the Bucks probably don't have any interest in Mirotic, but what the hell:

**The three Bulls players = Mirotic (can't trade him in the trade machine yet, but the salaries there match his perfectly). Jazz send their first to Chi, and maybe a second to the Bucks? Future first to the Bucks?

Bucks satisfy their need for a center now with Favors, plus have Bradley as a future look if they like him, and gives them flexibility with resigning Derrick. Maybe they would view Mirotic as an acceptable swap in for losing Jabari, considering his incoming payday? They get rid of both Teletovic and Delly, which would be significant.

Bulls get their 1st for Mirotic. It's a good one, but comes with the reasonable expense of swallowing some bad money. But hey, rebuilding.

Jazz swing hard for the fences...
