Donovan is pissed at some stupid Jazz Fans

I love Mitchell probably more than any Jazz player since Stockton, but man, if he doesn't expect fans to want trades in this era of basketball...I just don't know what to say. That's just a super common fact of life for any team with a fan base.
I get you here. People wanting trades is part of the territory. This is the NBA now. As mature as he is I will admit I see your point, he still has things to learn. Fans see his teammates as commodities and he sees them as his friends and guys, but that’s how professional sports is. That being said, targeting a guy is still embaressing and wrong IMO. I remember the team with D-Will, Boozer, and Memo getting booed during a game when they were down big and were a good team that year. That’s to me is acceptable and a norm around professional sports. Booing one specific guy is something you rarely see, especially when the guy really hasn’t done anything in a public way or in a way to deserve it other than missing shots. I understand it isn’t personal from a fans point of view but to Hood and his teammates that’s what it will be taken as. Someone like Boozer who made it somewhat knownhe was jumping ship and “getting paid regardless” fans had a legitimate reason to turn on. I don’t see that sameness legitimate reason to single out Hood.

Meh not really my style to boo anyone home or away, but fans can boo players for sucking if they want to. You drop a few hundred on the game, a couple hundo a year more on your cable package/league pass or whatever other swag you buy, you can express you dissatisfaction however you want in my opinion. Booing happens because it’s the most direct way for fans to express dissatisfaction. Would I do it, no... but I understand why others do (every team in the league gets booed or has players who get booed at some point).

It’s an over-reaction from both sides tbh

That's why it sucks to hear about. Yea every arena does it, but this is one of those ways we can stand out.
Call out the player elsewhere, but when we are at home make the players feel at home.

They were going on his twitter feed and telling him Rubio needs to be traded so he would flourish more with the ball in his hands. This is not the same as we here discussing how Rubio needs to be traded. Hell, I want Rubio to be traded too, but how stupid do you have to be to go to Mitchell himself and tell him that? Stupid and embarrassing.

Rodney definetly doesn’t feel at home, and his home vs road numbers show it.

Seems like a more....exciting... place to be. It was kind of nice to see the chipiness return to the NBA tonight.
Chippiness is one thing, but to try to sneak into the opposing team's locker room through a back entrance, and sending Capela to the front door as a decoy!?! Come the **** on guys...

Oh the leagues coming for the Rockets for sure, but as an outside fan it’s kind of fun to watch.

Are any locals really surprised? Utah sports fans are and always have been ****** and fair weathered.

They weren't all bad shots, but for fun I'm going to go back and examine all of his shots in his first stint on the court...

1st shot: https://stats.nba.com/events/?flag=1&GameID=0021700647&GameEventID=70&Season=2017-18&title=MISS Hood 12' Floating Jump Shot&sct=plot

This is a classic example of what Zach Lowe talked about with Hood settling for his comfort floater. It's not a terrible shot, but he takes one more strong dribble he can force the defense into a tougher situation. Sabonis would have to step up and he could either attempt a lefty layup (his strong hand) off the glass, or try to wrap around a pass to Favors. He would also have Mitchell in the corner if he drove it to the baseline.

2nd shot: https://stats.nba.com/events/?flag=1&GameID=0021700647&GameEventID=81&Season=2017-18&title=Hood 26' 3PT Jump Bank Shot (3 PTS) (Mitchell 1 AST)&sct=plot

Not a great shot, but also one I don't mind Hood taking. Oladipo had a good close out and manged to bother Hood, but Hood got lucky.

3rd shot https://stats.nba.com/events/?flag=1&GameID=0021700647&GameEventID=115&Season=2017-18&title=MISS Hood 24' 3PT Jump Shot&sct=plot

Not much to say. Great shot, just missed it.

4th shot https://stats.nba.com/events/?flag=1&GameID=0021700647&GameEventID=117&Season=2017-18&title=MISS Hood 25' 3PT Jump Shot&sct=plot

Same play as the 3rd shot. Great look, just missed it. These are the kind of shots we pull our hair out over a guy like Ingles passing up

5th shot https://stats.nba.com/events/?flag=1&GameID=0021700647&GameEventID=135&Season=2017-18&title=MISS Hood 24' 3PT Jump Shot&sct=plot

Semi-transition open 3 on a great pass and find by O'Neale. This is a great shot, again, he just misses it.

6th shot https://stats.nba.com/events/?flag=1&GameID=0021700647&GameEventID=139&Season=2017-18&title=MISS Hood 13' Pullup Jump Shot&sct=plot

First shot I can say I really have a problem with. He puts Al Jefferson in a transition PNR (great idea). Then drives the ball into him, only to pull up. If he is goign to take the jumper in this situation, he needs to abort one dribble earlier and rise for the 16'. Here he kind of commits to half way driving and it just ends up being a contested, slightly off balance jumper. Again, one more dribble puts Jefferson in a tough spot.

7th shot: https://stats.nba.com/events/?flag=1&GameID=0021700647&GameEventID=150&Season=2017-18&title=MISS Hood 25' 3PT Jump Shot&sct=plot

The best shot of the bunch. Wide open and in transition.

8th shot https://stats.nba.com/events/?flag=1&GameID=0021700647&GameEventID=196&Season=2017-18&title=Hood 11' Turnaround Jump Shot (5 PTS)&sct=plot

This is a move Hood seems to be doing once a game recently. He recognizes the mismatch and gets his guy in the post. Great move to get a wide open push shot in the middle of the paint. I'd like to see more of this. He can't get on top of the rim or blow by anyone, but he can be crafty in the painted area if he wasnt so eager to pull up for difficult shots or trying to barrel into defenders.

1st shot: Bad look. Forced floater over three defenders

2nd shot: Heavily contested 3 pointer that he was lucky to make

3rd shot: His first decent look. I don't have a big problem with this one. But it was contested. And is often the case with Rodney, if he makes one pass there his teammate gets a wide open three.

4th shot: Decent look, but unnecessary to take. The shot clock just reset.

5th shot: Another heavily contested shot.

6th shot: Another heavily contested shot.

7th shot: Agreed, this is the best shot of the bunch. No problem with this one.

I'll stop there because it was after shot 7 when the boos started. So 4 bad shots that were heavily contested. 2 shots that were decent looks but if he made a better decision the team could have had a better look. And 1 great look that just didn't go down.

Fans should never boo their players at the arena for playing badly. Don't think Mitchell should have called them out on twitter though because it just calls attention to it and puts even more pressure on Hood.

Also discussion and criticizing the team on a forum created to discuss the team is not the same as booing at the arena. I saw a post or two drawing that comparison, come on.

You got to be dumb as rocks if you think those 3's were bad looks.

Or maybe you are Joe Ingles and only think 3's should be taken if you have 10 feet between you and the closest defender.

So what? I still don’t see a reason to boo your own guy. There were two player (Favors/Mitchell) who deserved cheers tonight. If youre going to boo, boo the whole damn team because 12/14 guys sucked, not just the one. Also, it is becoming obvious Hood doesn’t stand up well to this and his character is not to admit he’s wrong, but that anyone who criticizes him is wrong and will just further put him in the dumps. His postgame comments on this issue are Trey Burkesck

Did I say anywhere that it was a reason to boo?

Stupid or not it's the reality with social media. Like if be stunned if it didn't happen. I'm sure every player has been told they need to get rid of one of their teammates for multiple reasons, or just to tell them.

What an embarrassment NBA fans, Jazz fans, and people are in General.

If you find yourself booing your own team you are genuine retard and human garbage with no compassion for other human beings. And only fake it when you say you do.

Seriously, how big of a loser do you have to be to do that.

This feels a bit strong to me. How many ways can (or should) fans demonstrate their opinions)?
Are people on here human garbage when they publicly ridicule players?
Are people better off not forking out the money to go and therefore show no interest? I bet the Jazz FO would prefer a bit of booing.

I feel this is a little naive of Mitchell. It's nice and all that he wants to stick up for his buddy, but why name and unintentionally shame Hood! This is dumb as... Just drawing attention to it as some other posters stated.

Secondly, don't go telling fans paying good money that the players are working their butts off. Give me a break. The booing is not about effort its about being ***..
Sure it aint my style to boo players specifically - but I would be booing the organization and coaching staff at this point...

DM comes off looking a little too sure of himself when he implores fans to act as he desires them.

Not saying you do this, but I love how fans always get mad at players for leaving to take more money “they already make millions, do they need a few more??”, but then act like they have the right to treat players anyway they want because they pay “good money” or “hard earned money” to watch them.

I think this was classless and ignorant to boo our own player on our own court. Donovan has a good head on his shoulder.
