Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

Why would we want Mirotic? Jazz need to and should be able to get good draft pricks for Hood or Favors. Mirotic doesn't make sense. He's a short-term rental. What are we renting him for?

Mirotic is on a decent deal, provides spacing and skills of need in position of need. He's a clear fit, especially when compared to Favors.

Dumping Asik for the Pels probably means like saving 20 million dollars next year once the tax figures come in after they sign Cousins. It's a big deal for a small market franchise w/ cheap owners.

They can't take back a lot of salary for next year. THey want to re-sign Cousins and not break the bank to keep him in terms of LT.

Mirotic and Asik make the same next year. So unless they can dump Asik for an expiring, that's a wash. If they can also get rid of Ajinca, they save an additional $5 million. I take that risk if I'm New Orleans.

I don't know why this is so hard....Pellies want an expiring, Bulls want the Pellies Pick, Jazz want Mirotic.

Pellies get Joe Johnson, Bulls get Asik and the Pick, Jazz get Mirotic.

I haven't heard or read of any possible trade scenarios for any player which would excite me if it included the Jazz giving up a 1st round pick. Any first round pick.

Right... they want the option.

I think this might be a best case scenario for us. We continue to suck and next year the pels send him to us for Thabo and Jerebko (and a second if we are nice)... they can decide to exercise the options if they want... they probably decline.

Yes it is. If you have no plans to sign players in 2018, its' 1000000% worth it.

You misunderstood me. It's not worth it for the Pelicans. It's a steal for whoever obtains the pick. I think Asik could be dumped for less than a 1st, unless it is an extremely protected first.

Yeah, that's why I made another post under that one when I realized.

Pels want the player too. We could send Favs and NO could send Ajinca to Chicago... we give them a second. Or Holiday could go to NO... there are ways we can inject ourselves if we want.

But what if we just got him next year for nothing but space? It still may be prudent to wait this out until the offseason... why make our pick worse?

He's not playing for Chicago. He's in Minnesota. He looks like Tibor.

He plays 15 MPG.

If he's our answer then we may as well just roll with Jerebko as next year's starter.

Minny sorry... he's good doe... his shot is butter and he shoots it from Ryan anderson range... You could say his mechanics are unreal.

We can't send Favors because New Orleans would be over the luxury this year. We can't take Asik and say Cunningham because we don't have a roster spot. JoeJ works well.

Obviously, if Utah traded for Niko, they would exercise his option and then hope to re-sign him after next season.

We ain't getting a pick for Favors. His salary can't be matched on any playiff team other than Cleveland without taking back a bad contract. Hood likely gets us a late 1st.

Except that they could stretch his $15M remaining over five years... so cap hit goes from 11 to 3.

Anybody keeping or acquiring Asik will definitely stretch him.

EDIT: Oh HH beat me to it

Because for us he wouldn't be a rental. He'd be someone we'd have on a good contract until 2019 and then be able to re-sign. He'd be a long-term answer for the stretch 4 role that we've desperately needed filled for a loooooooooonnnnnngggggggg time.

Here is my final deal. We take Ajinca and Mirotic and give up Favs and Jerebko. NO can decide whether or not to waive Jerebko... he's another solid rotation player for them this year. They get off of Ajinca and Asik. Bulls get the same damn deal they were going to get. We get our guy but hurt our cap space that we were never going to use next year.
