Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

Agreed. But in terms of changing the game defensively and bringing NRG which the Cavs lacks right now, then DeAndre is probably the better player.

If the Cavs can find a way to get Favors and Avery Bradley without sacrificing the Brooklyn pick (which is realistic considering both Bradley and Favors are free agents this summer), I think the Cavs are back for this season. Those guys are exactly what the Cavs need.

Probably nothing will happen. They are probably just seeing if someone blows them away with a great offer

It also gives them a sense of his FA market. No harm in poking around.

The new Orlando Magic Front Office absolutely hates the hand they were dealt - Biyombo, Fournier, Payton, Ross, Augustin and even Gordon. I think the only guys they added are Isaac and Simmons who were both good choices. I wouldn't put anything past this front office. They might do something drastic just to start things on their terms.

I came home half-expecting there to be some kind of trade occurring. If HALF of the teams in the NBA have called about Hood then I'm confident there's going to be a trade. DL is probably waiting for the best deal. The guy obviously knows what he's doing as he came from The Spurs. I wouldn't be surprised if DL nets us a 1st and 2nd for Hood.

I doubt the 14th pick plus two in the mid-to-late 20's gets Utah into the top-7. There's just too big a drop-off in talent for a team to do that.

The good news is DL doesn't need top-10 picks to get us talent. Mitchell, Rudy, Ingles...

Having a few firsts is simply more chances to draft what he likes - and if he's not feeling this year's draft he'll no doubt obtain picks for the drafts he feels strongly about. DL sees the Matrix (and I'm not talking about Marion).

The Celtics are rumored to be after bench scoring. And everybody knows they have more picks than they know what to do with. If they can turn Smart into a future pick, maybe they send us a 1st for Hood.

Ain’t doing Ainge no favors. Would only send Hood to Boston if it was part of a larger deal that moved Hayward from Boston. DL should be screening calls from Ainge.

I mean if Favs and Hood are playing tonight I’m guessing nothing is close. Would be kinda dumb to have them play if we were somewhat close to a deal... no?

I think the new front office might actually be good... didn’t panic trade or sign anyone and are taking a patient wait and see approach.

Yes I will be upset if Rodney is not moved. Because I know that if he's on this roster after tomorrow the Jazz are going to match any offer he gets in the summer. We'll end up overpaying for what he provides and our future cap/roster flexibility will be gone.

You might be right but there are likely to be some relatively screaming deals this summer. The amount of money to spend is so low by NBA standards that this is a real bad year to be a FA. The deal signed by Williams and Clips is an early indicator. Averaging over 20pts and 5 assists a game and you sign a 3 year 24mil deal. It would have been far more than that the last few years.

I mean sure they might get hurt... but, we need wins in games like this. So why not play them?

Ummm because they might get hurt... you’ve been on the Rodney Hood experience the last 3 years right?

I think the Lou Will deal being so low is partly due to a couple of other factors though. First of all he didn't test the market. Second he's having a career year and most likely doesn't want to keep bouncing around the league after doing that for the majority of his career.

I know that the projected available money in free agency is tight this year. But the thing is the money that is available is going to get thrown at second tier free agents like Rodney Hood, Aaron Gordon and Jabari Parker. Because most of the top tier free agents are going to opt in to their player options or just re-sign with their current teams knowing that the money isn't available this year. Of the top tier free agents the only ones I see possibly moving are Deandre and IT. Maaaaayyyyybbbe LeBron if he's willing to take a massive pay cut to go to a different contender. All of the teams who have cap space are going to be looking at those second tier free agents. Even if we get somewhat lucky and Rodney only gets offered Joe Ingles type money it would hurt our future flexibility to match.
