Following Potential 2018 Draftees

i think young is worn out. can't hit the three and he's useless at the end of games. he's been beat up and beat down. you can still see the talent, especially with his passing, but this big 12 schedule has simply tired him out, imo.
I saw the game on earlier and didn't watch much of it. I was so high on Young, at one point, I said I'd take him number one. After watching him chuck and turn the ball over, especially in clutch time, I've cool'd on him a lot. Outside of my top 5 now.

Has Jerome Robinson been discussed at all? now 2/3 of the season, conference play in full swing, sample size starting even things out - Robinson as a 6'6" SG shooting/scoring numbers doesn't have many peers. 20 ppg on 64% TS. i'd take him in the early 2nd.

I'm fairly convinced Robinson is better than the kid from Tulane DX/ESPN has in the first rd, Melvin Frazier, their similar for sure... Early 2nd rd grade easily, actually I'd say fringe-first.. with room to rise for sure, this kid is gonna shine in team workouts.. Truly has a deft touch..

DeAndre Ayton curls 120lb dumbells like they are toothpicks... Reports of his lack of working out are greatly exaggerated..

They say he's stronger already than Kaleb "Zeus" Tarczewski was a senior..

This is, who I am talking about.

Gafford sent realistic as he is a center

Gafford is not just a center. He's a PF/C in my book. If u actually look at that kid play defense objectively, there's absolutely nothing stopping him from being an effective defender at the 4 spot.. He's far from limited..

He is honestly the Marquese Chriss of this draft and don't be suprised if he flies up the boards... I mean, this is my favorite sequence in college basketball all year..

I would go as far as to say I think he'll end up best suited in a Favors style PF role..............

Just looking for abbreviated thoughts on a short list of guys:

Landry Shamet
Lonnie Walker IV
Jacob Evans III
Troy Brown

shamet did himself a great disservice by staying in college. He's outside of the 1st rd. I think he's soft and a finesse player and he's too easily bothered, Shake Milton destroyed him and rightfully passed him on all boards... He's got potential no doubt, his situation actually for some reason reminds me of UNC's Justin Jackson who ended up int he lottery and is actually playing decently for the kings of late. Unless he's desperate he shouldn't declare this year.

Lonnie Walker is about as bi-polar of a prospect as you will find, I suspect that he is a choke artist, which if you've followed my comments over the years is not a barb I cast out with any sort of regularity........ I hate watching Miami, they've got many issues that can be traced back to the adults involved, they've overrecruited the guard positions and have a major "too many cooks ruining the stew" situation. Walker has great potential still, I like Gary Trent Jr better, that kid has ice in his veins and i suspect kool-aid runs thru lonnies vains..

I don't have a bad word to say about Jacob Evans.. he's a player I pointed out here, saying basically, this kid has a 44" vertical, shoots 3's he passes the ball and he's a classic tough Cincinnati player (and he wears a headband!).. I'm a huge fan and have been. I like Cinci, they are super dangerous, and it's a joke they are ranked 5th or something like that -- LOL, how ?!? IDK why...... With the emergence of Royce O'Neale, I doubt he's the pick....

Troy Brown is a player I brought up here a long time ago, he's been on the radar for quite some time, many years... I think I said back then he looks like a better prospect than Exum, I'm a true believer in Brown's PG skills, i'll just start there, he has the vision of an NBA PG.... He's quite the case study, even after all these years, my gut feeling is to keep a wait and see attitude, late-in the process will be big for him... He is really quite glorious to watch in transition...

Look at how he dunks that ball... Y'all see it with Mitchell, that kid has some sort of hands on him to do all the stuff he does... His potential is very very high.. I wouldnn't have him in the lottery as of now, he's somewhere in the shai gilgeous range, probably 1 spot ahead of him, but he's got potential to go flying up my board.

I think this Luka has a ton of potential and could be a huge additon at PF for the Jazz

This kid seems underrated on the 2019 mocks i've seen. top-20 talent ez IMO. He's good enough to get drafted this year just not eligible. He'd show extremely well if he was in a high-major college.

1 more quick hit; Jalen Brunson graduates this spring in just 3 years of college. Nova just landed their PG of the future, and a great prospect even by Nova's standards, in Jahvon Quinerly.. This all seems to add up to Brunson declaring for this years draft.

also while nova's brought up.. don't sleep on Donte DiVicenzo... I pointed him out last year, there's no doubt he's an NBA player...

Career-high 30 in this game. He's shooting 40% from 3 on 5.5 attempts per game!!! I kinda feel like he's a better prospect than Wayne Selden, whos actually been playing quite well for the Grizzlies (I made a big stink about Selden not getting drafted too, that was absurd..)

I teach at Wichita State and go to most of the games (so that makes me an expert, right?). Shamet had a mid-season slump which likely hurt his stock. I'm guessing he'll stick around here for another year unless he explodes in the NCAAs. Vanvleet came through the program a couple of years ago and he's having a stellar career with the Raptors right now. Shamet plays a similar game to Vanvleet, but Shamet's got more hops.

Thanks for the thoughts!

Think the Shamet vs Milton h2h is getting a bit overweighted if what you're saying is true. Shake shot the lights out that game (11/14 overall, 5/6 from deep) and Shamet played well offensively himself (20/10 on 12 shots). Think Shamet should still be over Milton, just a more skilled passer imo who really looks great in the PnR, which should help him more in the NBA game.

Not a Trent Jr believer, 3&D guy who doesn't know how to play defense. Walker seems a bit boom or bust but I guess I'd come down closer to ice than kool-aid.

Is smaller/more athletic Kyle Anderson a decent comp for Brown?

If we're being honest Van Vleet's 1v1 skills are / we're so much better than Shamet's at this stage tho, Van Vleet tough as nails too, physically and mentally.

There's some old story about Van Vleet at the CP3 elite guard camp I'll dig it up, they make all the guards play a 1v1 tournament at the end and I think he won.. Shamet isn't built like that.

Aww man, I'm hoping to see him in the NBA sooner rather than later. Who knows, good end to the season could turn it back around.

The McDuffie injury has been paramount to many of Wichita St's issues, it's allowed teams to really hone in on Shamet.. It's a shame cuz I really like that C they have, he plays with so much heart.

Just another follow up: De'Andre Hunter, who I've fired off several warning shots here about in the last months, is now 1st rd quality on my board, call him #30.

He's like Marvin Williams coming off the bench for that UNC team... Thats probably the best way I could put it...

He has potential to be a scoring option... His moves, his fakes, his footwork their clean...CLEAN... CLEAN.. idk what more i gotta say..

He actually is so damn good it might benefit his pockets to stay another year and showcase for the LOTTERY....

Pointing out the obvious here, but the Jazz could really use a forward who is more athletic than Ingles, Crowder and Jerebko.

If we've got Mitchell/Rubio/Exum in the backcourt and Gobert at the 5, we need someone in between who can match that level of athleticism. Even Royce O'Neale jumps off the screen compared to our other guys. So did Thabo. It's okay to have one lunch-pale/glue guy like Ingles or Crowder on the floor, but when we get to 2 or 3 of them, it makes for a disadvantage. Elfrid Payton and Josh Jackson were blowing by our less athletic guys.

One thing that pissed me in last years draft was when the jazz drafted Tony bradley when Jordan bell was still available. The the damn warriors drafted him.

I can see something similar happen with Shamet. He would be perfect backing up curry like Livingston is doing now.
