Donovan Mitchell All Star Weekend Thread

I think Donovan was he best dunker tonight and deserved to win but my favorite dunk was the off the backboard catch it throw it off the backboard again catch it again and dunk it dunk.

Also, I think dipos first dunk he attempted would have been the best if he could have landed it. That **** looked hard as ****.

I’m glad they get 3 tries. If they only got one try then they would probably play it safer and the difficulty level would go down. We might miss out on some epic dunks.

Once they had to start brining props and costumes in the dunk contest was done.

A little enjoyable because our man was in it, and won it. Nothing against DM.

Id rather see a legends game with Stock Malone and Jordan.

He pulled it off.... but just barely. Vince dunk was much better imo. Of course i believe VC to be the best dunker of all time so its not realistic to think mitchell could do it as well as VC.
I liked how he was doing the "its over" think just like vince did after the dunk.
 
I liked how on one of his dunks (maybe the 3rd one?) he caught the ball really low and one handed for a full windmill. The key on that one to me was that he didn't touch the ball at all with his left hand and that made it look even better. Also, the guy who threw it off the side of the backboard on dunk two did it perfectly to where mitchell had to catch it way behind him so it looked even better. Seemed like he had an awkward landing on that dunk as well and for a moment i feared the worst. (not even gonna say the word though)

Agreed. I want them to try to do the dunks with the most degree of difficulty possible. If they got points deducted from missing dunks or only got one attempt then players would just do easier dunks and we (fans) would all lose in that scenario.

I dont. Kinda sounds interesting to me though (im guessing it was a massive failure though)
Kinda like seeing if you can out-do a previous dunker and do their dunk better than them.
 
Oladipo was the reason the contest struggled some. He acted almost like he didn't want to be there. Dennis Jr tried, but he looked nervous. Definitely not a showman.

Mitchell won despite Nance getting a little extra attention due to his Dad, some extra residual Laker following, and recent trade recognition.

DM earned the win.

I had ALOT of fun watching that dunk contest. I was watching it like it was a playoff game or something. Standing up, pacing around, clapping loudly, pumping my fist, ready to pitch a fit if the judges would have screwed things up.
Lots of fun.

My wife even enjoyed watching the Spida dunks.

What he's saying is, although Memo did not like the dunk contest, it's not a jab at Donovan or his game. People, on this message board, are finding it hard not to equate assessments of last nights dunk contest to the contestants play in NBA games.

To me, Dennis Smith Jr had the best dunk and was robbed of going to the finals.
 
Ya that dennis smith dunk was probably the most difficult. I doubt any other player in this contest could have done it. I still liked the double off the backboard dunk better though.

I would like to see a dunk contest set up like a game of horse. See who can do dunks that other guys cant.
might be a massive failure/flop but I would like to see it that way just for one year at least.

How about support a fellow Jazzman or keep your dumb opinion to yourself? Memo could be a team ambassador, but last night he was a team ***.
 
Not every year can be a sick contest. The Lavine/Gordon was the exception, not the rule.

How I would fix the evening:

1. Eliminate the skills challenge. What skills? Run up the ball, throw a pass, run back down, do a layup, run back down, shoot a three pointer? Elementary kids can do that. Ditch it and we're giving that TV time to the dunk contest.

2. Three point contest can stay as is really, don't think it needs retooling.

3. Dunk contest should be eight players. Judges are all former NBA dunk contest winners and DO NOT get to talk to each other. Dunks are each awarded ten points, five based on difficulty, five based on accuracy. Missed dunks, no matter how hard they may be, get one point taken away per miss as consistency matters. After two dunks each, four progress to the second round where that round is entirely composed of a random wheel of past dunks just to gauge who is the best at recreating on the fly and giving the contest some element of chance. Final round of two is two dunks each; you can either repeat the rules from round one or make it a timed round of 90 seconds where each recipient can do as many dunks as they want with whatever level of creativity they want and the judges judge the performance as a whole using the previous scale.
