John Callipari likened Enes Kanter as "a Karl Malone-ish kind of guy"

Callipari's reputation is somewhat at risk here. He wouldn't throw this idea that Kanter should be the #1 pick if he wasn't sure. Everything Kanter has showed at the combine has been above expectation. Kanter is getting plenty of positive comments from experts. This idea he hasn't shown what he can do at the US college level is suspect. He could not play US college ball because he was deemed a professional. He has played pro ball since he was what, 16? That is good credentials. He must have played against some pro talent older than college kids in Europe. If he does not deserve to be the #1 pick than surely he deserves to be the #3 pick for the Jazz. Jazz must take him at #3 if he's there.
Jazz can figure out how to get a respectable PG prospect later in draft.

wrong.

Calipari isn't really risking much of anything or putting his reputation on the line IMO. UK doesn't care if he can pick who will be a good pro. They care if he can win at the college level. Kanter doesn't pan out, Calipari loses nothing.

Draft Enes at 3 if he is available, if not we get Williams. Let Fesenko walk, try to trade Okur and have Enes as our backup center for a year or two. OR trade Al for a good wing.

I like Knight a lot, but I don't see the benefit of drafting him over Kanter.

Exactly if nothing else cal is pimping him because he feels bad for him being inelgible.

Right.

Anyone else remember PJ Carlismo pimping that one crappy center? Jose Ortiz or something?

That didn't seem to effect his coaching career or reputation. It did screw the Jazz over.

I don't have a problem with taking Knight. I just don't see the point in doing it if we aren't going to take Kanter and then trade for Knight and more value. JMO.

I want the Jazz to take Kanter or DW. If some how Irving fell to 3 then I would be happy. I would be disappointed with anyone else at the 3. I think everyone is reading into the "Kanter hasn't played in college". Well he practice for a year with a top team and a few reports said he dominated the competition. His coach says he would pick him number one and a few players have talked about how good he is. Without be privy to workouts and interviews, fans can only speculate how good someone will be. Heck the personnel who get total access still make mistakes. No one knows if any of these guys will be great. They all have red flags.

I just hope the Jazz get either Kanter or Williams or Irving. Then they get the best player available at 12 or even better they some how move up and get the PG they want. Watching the playoffs, it is obvious that the Jazz are several players away from being a legitmate contender so they need to acquire as much talent as possible and then sort out the roster.

As we learn more about Kanter, it seems Coach Cal may be at least somewhat correct in his "Karl Malonish" comparison. I was blown away by the low level of body fat Kanter has on him for a big guy. That low of a body fat % is not a fluke. It means the guy is working his *** off. It's starting to sound like his work ethic is off the charts. Combine that with his measurables and I don't see how Utah can possibly pass on him @ 3 (if he makes it that far).

Just wondering - Did anyone think that getting a center type player associated with your school picked number one in the draft might help in your recruiting of bigs? Besides he would look bad to his players if he said Kanter is not worthy to be picked number one. Coaches are suppose to help their players both in college and moving on into the professional ranks. Just saying............

Do you remember when Rick Majerus said Andrew Bogut had macular degeneration and would be blind eventually. Man, THAT was hysterical!

My thoughts exactly. Jazz have AK off the books this past season, Okur off the books this coming season and Jefferson/Harris/Millsap coming off the books the season after. That's about 65 million dollars in cap space and expiring contracts. My guess is at least 3 of those 5 players won't be re-signing - quite possibly none of them. In other words, 3 years from now this team will most likely be be Hayward, Favors and about a dozen questions marks.

To fill a present need is short sighted franchise suicide. Forget about what the team looks like today - Jazz should be all about acquiring the best assets.

.

Having your PG go number one wouldn't hurt his recruiting either. Personally, I don't think what John C. said had anything to do with how it would affect his recruiting. The guy already is the best recruiter in the NCAA. He has re-stacked his roster every year with top 5 NBA guys. What I think is more accurate is that John C. has coached many great players and he thinks Kanter is the real deal. :)
