What's new

Remember the Alamo Dome - Jazz @ Spurs 3/23/2018 6:30 pm MST

Yeah, I'm basing my thoughts on Dante on the glimpses of impressive play we're seeing. He makes tough plays look easy with his speed and court awareness. He needs to get his wind and Quin needs to let him play through mistakes.

Confidence could turn him into a great player. Not sure he has the demeanor to become an alpha dog, but he has the athleticism and some of the requisite skill.

I think Quin has set his rotations so Im not expecting him to get more minutes regardless of how he plays.

1 alpha dog is all you need. Best case is Exum becomes a decent Robin..

I'd like three alpha dogs, even four.

I see Dante getting more minutes as his fitness improves. Royce will be on the bench a lot more soon.

I missed his first stint but saw the rest. At times in the fourth quarter he looked either tired or a little lost, like the game was too fast for him.

I saw some really nice stuff from him, too.

He played more off ball in the 2nd stint and didnt have Favors out there, who he'd work great with early.

The 4/2/4/1 stat line was all from that first 5 min stint.

Yep. I feel he is below par in 'dexterity' and handles. He needs to use his speed and size more to compensate. We'll see//
His speed and size are pretty good weapons and he has shown signs of knowing how to use those weapons.... Ah hell, listen to me, I guess i might be coming around on Dante after all.

His defense has been pretty good the last 2 games. Its rare he doesnt stay in front of his man and isnt reaching/fouling (although he did foul a shooter today from memory).

I'd like to see him press up more at times though, he seems to be playing safe on his perimeter D.

i hope the jazzz coaching staff can correct the defensive rebounding, which was piss poor down the sretch in OT, we let them get 2-3 offensive rebounds to seal the game away.

I partially blame snyder last night on not playing favors over freakin crowder.....such a bad ****in idea.

Agreed that his defense has been good..... and it always has been imo. Even last night there was a play where the guy he was guarding tried to get to the rim and dante was there with good position and the dude just lowered the shoulder and dante went flying to the other side of the court. Should have been an offensive foul.
I would have liked to see Dante on schroeder more in the atl game. His speed and length seems like it would have been effective

I know Schroeder smoked him at least once and believe he got and and 1. Iirc he got yanked right after.

That game man... sigh.

I feel he needs to take a lower proportion of his 3s off the dribble. He needs some of those 'easy' looks Jerebko and O'Neale get. Ingles seems to only run plays when he is involving bigs - maybe Mitchell on a wing should be an option on some of those drives Ingles decides to throw an iffy bounce pass at Gobert's knees.

Just some more catch and shoot would make his life a bit easier.

I’d like to see him settle less for the three off the dribble because I think he can get that whenever he wants. I’d rather have him take that shot as the shot clock is winding down than a contested long two or something.

There was one time last night I just wanted him to drive when Aldridge got switched out and he settled for the three... we were in the penalty and I thought at very least he will get fouled or find an open shooter.

Here’s the thing though... if he gets better at that shot it’s over... he scores 30 a night. So I kind of want him getting the reps and I don’t want him to abandon it all together.

I haven’t seen the deer in headlights look from Exum... maybe some frustration here and there but he looks so much more confident and aggressive.

I think Rudy knows how important Donovan is going to be to the success of him and this team, just as much as fans do. Yes he’s talking to Donovan a lot, but it doesn’t look like much ever to me, just like normal talk by two guys who are the alphas of the team.

I mean as much as I don’t mind any of the shots Donovan takes, 36 is a **** ton for a rookie, and his teammates, especially Rudy, should be commended for letting him grow. Donovan’s success plays in to where he’s at because there’s not many teams he could go to he’s getting to shoot 28 and 36 times in games and his teammates being just fine with it. I want him to keep shooting for sure, but if he’s gonna take 30 shots a night a few more of them are gonna have to go in or some guys may stop being so open to him doing it.

There was just one moment where I saw Rudy, who was open, kind of holler at him. My concern level is low and those guys should be talking all the time... I think Donovan needs to make sure the big fella eats a little more... that’s all.

Ya and thats gonna happen. Schroeder is pretty good and very fast. I bet dante could have kept him from scoring 1000 points like he did though.

This. His 3 point shot is the key to his greatness imo. If he is a poor 3 point shooter for his career he will be a good player. If he is a decent 3 point shooter then he will be great and make many all star games. If he is a great 3 point shooter he will win some mvp awards.

They tried feeding Gobert a lot, but it's hard when he's double teamed under the rim with someone holding him.

There was certainly a lot of that... thought there were a couple lob opportunities on DM's drives when Aldridge came over on the PnR. Not sure DM had an angle though.

This is laughable....did you not see how it went when Ingles tried to get a 3 off? When guarded tight the dude can’t get his shot off. Hard defenses on Ingles bother him. Donovan is the one who can at least make sure he gets a shot.
This type of situation is exactly why I wanted Marco Belinelli after his buyout. Jazz really need one more solid 3 point shooter for a game like this. Hopefully, they add a guy like that this offseason or next.
