If you could go back to one specific historical event or time, what would it be?

Don't think we've ever done this before.

Please provide any specific event and/or any specific time period. Your rationale as to why those specific times would make the posts more interesting imo.

Go.

I need to think of my own.

I think living in he 50’s would be great. Seems like a pretty great time in our country (for a white guy like me anyway).

Read a book based in that era and it seemed pretty sweet.

Just to visit - like, you had a Tardis to hang out in? Or would you have to really live in it? And for how long?

And could you be vaccinated against all the horrible diseases beforehand? As well as some anti-virals to keep our modern diseases from wiping out the population?

Need more specifics. Like, I go back as a participant, or just as an observer. Do I have my current knowledge/perspective? Or am I like everyone else?

No but you could take your own plastic bubble to get around in. Like this guy

Russia in 1917 is of particular interest to me, the revolution, the period of history when masses people genuinely believed in the possibility to create Utopian societies. The war in Spain. 1917 to say 1965 is my favourite period of history, the transition from the modern to post modern society, so much of my favourite art also comes out of this period. Yeah that would be the period i pick.

The period following the American Revolution. I've thought about what it might be like to be a tour guide for Thomas Jefferson if he traveled to the present. So I guess if he could be my tour guide I'd go to 1786.

I'd much rather check out the future.

As for the past, I'd go to the SPQR. Would join one of the cults with the orgy rituals.

Mine would probably be more centered around music and the arts. I couldn't participate in any great scientific discoveries, and, frankly, watching them would be boring. I wouldn't want to be involved in any military action, and I couldn't guarentee that I'd actually get to have any meaningful interaction with great politicians or other historical figures. Ah, but art & music? That, I could enjoy.

So, NYC in the mid-70s, birthplace of punk, hip-hop, jazz fusion, disco... And the attendant visual art scene. Maybe Chicago in the Roaring 20s, during the jazz age. Or travel back to see Romeo & Juliet at the Globe.

Agree. Seeing some of bands live would be unforgettable experience. Late 80's death metal scene in Florida would be my target...And maybe to see Fredie Mercury as well.

Definitely the Roaring 20s in New York City. It was a time of economic growth and prosperity after WWI. Women were finally able to vote, get decent jobs, and enjoy some freedoms they had previously not been allowed. There were cars and radios and movies and fun music and dances and cool clothes. There were a couple of birth control options. There were washing machines and vacuum cleaners so housework wasn't as daunting. I'm not much of a drinker so prohibition wouldn't be a big problem, plus it isn't like it was difficult finding alcohol anyway. I understand the racial tensions were not as severe as they were in later decades. A fun decade, up until the Great Depression.

So many things I'd like to see. The Huns, Greece, Wild West, Mayan/Aztec culture, Chinese dynasties...I wouldn't even know where to start.

But lets just throw one out there. I'd like to see the pyramids get built.

I would love to be able to have a time machine like in the TV show "Timeless" and jump around to different places for different events. But I certainly wouldn't want to stay for long in any of them.

Which one(s)? You know they were built over a period of about 2000 years, right?
