What Should Be Worked On?

I think its really hard to gauge exactly what we need (to take the next step) with a injury plagued team.

We need to be healthy damn it!

Exum needs a full year to work on everything.
Rubio improved so much as the year went on. His shooting carried us on more than a few nights.

Late game rebounding seemed to bite us at times.
We need another scorer to go to the next level.

Mitchell needs a couple months down time before getting back to work. He played 90 some games this season, two summer leagues, and didn't get an all star break.
Guessing they won't have him in summer league this year.

Exum is just not very good at basketball.

If you're complaining that Ben Simmons got an advantage by missing a season, you can't also say that Exum is at a disadvantage by missing a season.

His size and athleticism is nice to have.

I just don't see how you can bring Exum back imo. Unless the offer is the minimum, how can you pay someone for 15 games a year at that price?

Quin Snyder:
Another line inhaled from upon the belly of the newest Jazz Dancer. The coach felt the rush in his veins, the burgeoning circles of consciousness expanding beyond the mental horizon. His pupils dilated as a jaguar hunting the Amazon Basin during the witching hour. A cue, serendipity if you will, called him akin to the ancient prophets of the Old Testament yelling in the middle of the desert "Is that you God?" A smirk, a murderous and wonderful thing, creased his already meme-worthy face. "Donovan, you are playing Point Guard tonight!" With that, another line disappeared as the dancer giggled.
There really isn't much for Quin to do other than develop those players we have. There's legitimate talent on the roster.

Rudy Gobert:
The ogre, the Eater of Souls as the villagers called him, looked over the valley as dawn broke o'erhead. A chunk of flesh from the latest would-be hero hung lazily from his mouth as the sunlight broke the early morning fog. A dumb creature he was not. No, his mind thought in terms of strategic rather than tactic. As he looked down to the village, his sharp eyes spotted another band of novice, virgin heroes coming to "end" his reign of terror over the valley. A sigh, he tossed the leg that was breakfast over his shoulder and sauntered towards his cave. A small, almost inaudible sigh escaped his lips.

"Tuesday." he mumbled.
Rudy will be Rudy. He's obviously proven his worth to this tteam during the course of this season and the last. But he needs to work on a few post moves. In today's game, he can dominate like old-time centers, but he needs a few go-to moves as well. And FTs of course.

Donovan Mitchell:
Spida ran up the wall a split second before the latest C-list "super" villain blasted a hole in the masonry of the skyscraper. A neat little leap and flip saw the Spida land behind his foe, using the dust and debris as an optical block. The villain, known as West Brook, stared on. "Did I get him?" he wondered. A size 13 boot quickly rose between his legs, answering his query and lifting him a couple of feet into the air. West Brook landed in a heap, clutching his severely wounded... pride.
"Idiot." Spida said to prone evildoer.
Mitchell needs a damn vacation first. Seriously. Otherwise, just be Mitchell. I'm convinced his ceiling is multiple MVPs. His shot selection and three ball will improve with time. Just a matter of gaining more experience.

Jae Crowder:
The Expendable? Maybe. After all, he served for three different units in the span of a year, it surely was an apt title. Right? This thought only made Crowder chuckle inwardly. Most days anyway. This morning, though, was target practice. The firearm, a prime example of modern day engineering, pierced the afternoon air with a repetitive chatter of a mach speed typewriter. Metal flew towards its intended direction, eager to taste the material of their target. Jae's muscled arms corded under the weight of the gun, sweat glistening down his near ebony skin. His sharp eyes peered forward like a hawk. Crowder bellowed a guttural cry just as him ammunition finally ejected from the barrel. His commander, an unknown man with an amphetamine fetish, nodded as he clapped the man known as Crowder, a pride in his unit and generation, on the shoulder.
"Congratulations Jae," the anonymous man commented, "You almost hit something."
I love Jae and what he brings to the team, but he needs to work on his shot selection. In no uncertain terms.

There are others, but I need to get to work.

Shooting shooting shooting.

We need somebody other than Mitchell who can consistently create offensive opportunities and finish them.

Shooting shooting shooting.

Freethrows(everyone).
Mitchell off the bounce 3.
Exum jumpshot.
Crowder jumpshot.
Gobert trunk strength, hands, any single post move(and a counter move).
Favors keep working on that corner 3.

That’s what comes to mind quickly.

All: Free throws when fresh, free throws when tired, free throws when injured, free throws when dead. Practice all of them a lot. And layups. All need to shoot a million FT's and a million layups a day.

DM: Improve all shooting, but put extra work into 3pt shots, both catch and shoot, and off the dribble. Improve ball handling. Steal the crab dribble from LeBron, steal the flail and travel step back from Harden, steal the one leg fadeaway from Dirk or the fade in general from Kobe. Probably practice put back dunks, need moar.

Gobert: I like Numbs hook shot idea, it worked for Kareem. Steal Duncan's bank shot, you need a go to non dunk.

Ricky: Practice shooting, a lot. You need to be feared.

Ingles: Get to know even better the likes, dislikes, family, dirt on all SF in the league, but especially WC. If time do the same with SG's. Do some standup to practice trash talk. We need 5 people to get double T's next year because you got under their skin. Oh, and keep practicing the 3's and off speed drives, they are brilliant.

Crowder: Practice shooting and rebounding. We need the points with less streak.

Favors: Practice accepting a fair contract from the Jazz. You were good at it before, I hope you can keep it up. We need your 3 & D... so yea, practice the 3 ball.

Burks: Practice shooting, but practice defensive consistency. You are a firecracker and D will keep you on the floor.

Royce: Practice the 3 and whatever got you to do what you did in the playoffs, nice job.

Jonas: Practice the 3 and D. Glad to have you here.

Exum: Practice not eating buttery foods before a game. I think that could pay dividends when you make a nice drive and the ball squirts into the stands. Oh, and shooting in general, 3's, layups.

Derrick Rose: Practice getting your money off our books. TIA

Tony Bradley: Practice eating a lot, and everything else. Seriously.

Neto: I don't know what to suggest. I think what happened in the last game is too soon for me to comment on. Practice it all, and practice stretching your arms to add length.

Udoh: Practice hitting free throws. Eat, sleep, drink, pee free throws. If someone gets fouled and injured and you are called on to come in and shoot them, make the other team regret it.

Thabo: Practice recovering fast, then back to the 3's when you can. More 3 & D is never a bad thing.

Snyder: Practice what you preach. Keep doing what you're doing. This is a great team, fun to watch, and it's nice to see development.

Crowder needs to learn to play under control. Every time he has the ball it makes me cringe. He needs to work on catch and shoot 3's and making better decisions/taking care of the ball.

We need Karl Malone to come work 1 on 1 with Gobert so Gobert can learn how to handle strong athletic bigs. He seems to struggle at times against them. Malone could also help him develop maybe 1 or 2 simple moves around the rim. Malone always had that baby hook coming across the middle, kind of like Capella's. No reason Gobert couldn't work on that.

We were healthier this season than last. Rudy's injuries were due to freak contact, as was Dante's. The hamstring thing sucks, it's a concern, but overall I think the medical staff had a more successful season.

Yup.

The one silver lining with Rubio going down is Burks and his expiring deal are probably now very trade-able without having to take garbage back or giving up additional assets. It makes zero sense to bring him back next year in the same role as he had in the regular season - so either get him into the rotation or get him out of here this summer.

I'm ok with letting Exum go if they take his QO along with the remaining of the cap room to bring in a legit #2 scorer or at the very least a legit #1 offensive weapon off the bench.

Bring back Favors only if the price is right - do not over pay. My guess is this is the healthiest year he has for the rest of his career.

O'Neale's contract is a major victory for the FO - guarantee the remaining two years (did they do this already?)

Bring back Jonas unless his 4mil is needed in part to bring in a legit #2.

I'd like to have Neto back but back-up PG's are about a dime a dozen. I'm inclined to try a Rubio/Mitchell at PG for 48 minutes with like a 33/15 breakdown - kind of like what The Rockets do with Paul/Harden

That's about it.

Take away the passports of Neto and Gobert. Instead of being travel buddies, they need to be training buddies. Gobert can make a leap, but he has to be serious. I dont think he spent enough time working on his game last summer.

FT's and 3pt shooting for everyone.

Actually I was going to say that about Rubio.

Would love for him to spend the summer in Utah with the Jazz coaches instead of international competition.

Being he's a UFA after next season it would be the smart move for him as well.

Mitchell: Pull up & step back 3, handle, body
Exum: Finishing around the rim (he gets to the paint so easily!), catch and shoot 3, body
Rubio: 3 pt shot, finishing at rim, lob pass (I am surprised how unnatural this seems to be for him), body
Favors: Corner 3, Free throws, Al Jefferson push shot
Gobert: Base strength, free throws, baby hook, keeping the ball high
Ingles: Joe Johnson style slow bumping drives to hooks/fade away (I think this would be a huge add to his game and open his scoring and passing threat), strength
Crowder: Speed, ball handling, 3 pt shot
O'Neale: Athleticism, 3 pt shot, floater
