It could just mean Favs wants to mess with us and have some fun on twitter, or something completely unrelated.

Then I kind of had a last thought because Locke mentioned on 1280 one day that if you're a player you can't really go out an outwardly say you want a certain guy on your team because that inadvertently says you don't want another guy on your team. My thought was, Donovan said he wanted PG on his team in the WOJ podcast, which in a round about way says, I want PG on my team instead of the guy who's already on my team. This is borderline conspiracy but just a thought.

You are potentially right. He also didnt mention Favors in his Player's Tribune article. Mitchell doesnt seem to think Favors is in the long-term plans.

It seems like Faves and Mitchell got a long really well in post game court interviews. It doesn't really square with me. Besides, wouldn't Paul George displace Joe Ingles more than Faves?

No because Ingles is gonna be on this team next season regardless but if we sign PG then we wouldn't be able to afford to re-sign Favors.

This actually makes a lot of sense.

Nobody/nothing is replacing Ingles. Just so you and everyone else in the world knows.

Getting George is so difficult.

Jazz have to waive 6 players (Neto/Exum/Favors/Thabo/Udoh/Jonas) then they have to free up 10 million more dollars, the only way of which is to trade Burks without taking back money. With the new rules that super hard to do. Who can just straight up absorb Burks? Would anyone be willing to take him just for our 2019 pick? I dont know.

We send Burks to OKC. They do it because they’re eying the draft rights to Tomic, who’s going to complement TF out of Adams. Then they can trade Melo to Cleveland so he, Hayward, and JR can help fill the void LeBron left.

No, OKC has no cap-space, even if George leaves. They can't just take on Burks.

Since you can no longer count non-guaranteed deals towards salary matching, its much harder to dump players to free up cap-space.

The Jazz have to find a team that is 12 million dollars below the salary cap and is willing to take on Burks for our 2019 pick, which wont be a good pick.

You must have not read my post.

Favors is likely gone, and if he stays it will be because he couldn't find something better, likely on a one year deal. We have kept a good relationship with Favors and Favors has said the right things about the Jazz because we are both of the others backup option. If we can't get a better fit, we can retain Favors for the short term. If Favors can't find a better deal this offseason where few teams have cap space, he can come back to the Jazz on a short term deal. That is the situation and I think it is obvious to everyone.

Was the peace sign was directed at the Jazz--maybe? I could see how Favors might feel miffed that, after playing for this franchise as long as he has, done the things he has for us, sacrificed in the ways we have asked him to, that we will not offer in a big deal for a lot of years, and that he is clearly not in the long term plans. I get that. But it just is the way it is. Love Favors, we should always cheer for him when he comes back to play here. Wouldn't mind seeing him back on a 1 year deal if we can't get a better fit. But obviously our team just has a different need from the player he is. Can't lock up long term cap in a guy who doesn't fit, as much as we love him and he deserves it.

I really hope Favors gets a big deal from someone. Not us, but someone. Would be really happy for him.

Was the peace sign aimed at Mitchell saying he would try to recruit PG on the woj pod or anything mitchell said? I really doubt that. I doubt he even heard about it and don't see how he'd take offense. Mitchell is the franchise guy now and saying he wants to recruit other players to Utah is standard. If anything I'd be worried if Mitchell said, "No, I don't want anyone to sign here. I want to keep this exact team, keep all my friends together, have the jazz put all their cap into keeping this team together long term." As fun as this team was chemistry wise, everyone knows we need another star. Got to get him somehow. And we need to get players that fit with Mitchell and Favors. You'd never get out of the second round in the west otherwise. I'm glad Mitchell already is taking on that mindset of being the franchise piece and finding players to fit next to him and trying to get guys here who could take the team to a new level. That's how we need him to think.

Is this a shot to Hayward's peace sign after the playoffs?
