Jazz actively trying to move down from #3

Ryan Feldman on Jazz #3:

Two teams actively trying to trade down are the Utah Jazz and Cleveland Cavaliers, according to sources.

Jonathan Givony on Jazz #3:

The team is also actively exploring trade opportunities, namely for a proven starting point guard.

Stephen Curry for #3 sounds like the deal I would do, obviously other pieces would have to be added. Golden St. has said that if the right deal came up they would trade Curry.

I'd rather see them trade the #3 entirely if decent value is there. Problem is, there won't be. Only picks 1-2 have any real legit value in this draft.

Hope not. I don't think so as well.

KOC traded up to get DWill - what would be his rationale for trading down?
In 2005, he felt like he had to get to #3 or #4 to get the player he wanted. He was right. Now maybe he feels like he can pass on Kanter and/or Knight while getting a substantially equivalent player PLUS another asset. Depending on how far down he trades, he might still have a shot at one of them.

KOC should be throwing all kinds of stuff out there and seeing what sticks. Trading up, trading down, trading out. At #3 he's in a position of power. Not as much as #1 or #2, but still power. Givony may think he's actively pursuing trades, but that isn't the same as saying the Jazz want out of the draft desperately.

I am pretty sure that no one outside the Jazz organization knows what KOC is going to do unless KOC wants them to know. I highly doubt this rumor is true. I would seriously have to consider the Curry rumor but I would want a little more than Curry if we are giving up the third pick.

We're rebuilding (presumption on my part) so I don't like the rumor we're trading down for a 'proven' PG. Only thing I could buy into is we're offering the #3 pick for a trade that includes add'l lottery picks in 2012. I just don't believe it.

KoC is exploring; as was said, if something sticks... Ya never know who someone else is gonna fall in love with. Since we appear to want to win NOW, I think we'd trade any asset for a proven vet in a heartbeat...

I agree with the first part of this statement. Nobody (outside the Jazz front office) knows what KOC's plan is. Is he probably listening to deals that would have the Jazz trading down in the draft? Yes. He'd be an idiot not to listen to what people are willing to offer, but does that mean he's actively trying to trade out of #3? Who knows? I think it's funny that people even try to speculate as to what KOC is going to do. It's just like when the trade deadline was approaching and every "expert", beat writer, heck even other GMs all had their ears to the ground trying to see who was going to do what, and even then KOC still silently pulled off a franchise, (heck league) altering trade right under everyone's noses.

My thoughts

-Jazz are having a big meeting after the guys get back from Europe. Greg Miller said it (see ABC4 interview) will be him, Randy Rigby, Bob Hyde, Mother, KOC. He didn't say Coach Corbin so I wonder if he will be involved. Greg said that KOC will present options and group will decide. The assistant trainer that Feldman talks to won't be at the meeting.

-Mark Jackson, new GS coach, may want to keep Curry and ship out Ellis. I wouldn't touch Ellis. Espn suggested Ellis for Iggy.

-Trading down is a risky propostion. You have to guess at what other teams after your #3 pick will do. It works if you don't care who you end up with. I like the possibility of drafting Knater #3 for Washignton and getting #6, 18, 34. Shelvin Mack is the PG the jazz will draft.

Stephen Curry for 3? Yeah that sounds like ****ing deal I'd do too.

I'd love to get Curry but I just don't see it happening. Sounds like Ellis is going to be traded for AI. So I don't really see them giving up Curry for Knight or Kanter, When they can take Jimmer at 11 and replace some of the scoring void left from Ellis.

I like the idea of that. But I keep thinking about Utah trading the 6th pick for the 3rd plus 2 other picks to Portland and how well it turned out for Utah in drafting Dwill and How bad it turned out for Portland.

Who would Utah draft at Number 6? Could they still get Knight? Just depends on Toronto, would they take Walker over Knight? But it would be awesome to see the Jazz end up with Knight at 6, Burk or Thompson at 12, and Singleton at 17.
