Official Thread: # Jazz Draft Day 2018 #

So we really come out of the day with more money in our owners pocket and Grayson Allen?

I’ll root for Allen to be awesome and hope for the best at this point. But if you had asked me for my worst case scenario 24 hours ago....

I know second rounders are usually nothing, but we have so few assets right now. At least let me pretend to get excited about some dude in Summer League. Yeesh.

I could have guessed this... Tony jones mentioned roster spots and why he didn’t think we’d trade into the 30s. I think we are picking up the options on our guys and running it back. We are fairly risk averse and we have been on of the biggest penny pinching franchises in recent years... we have also been incredibly profitable.

Why have a thousand workouts to sell picks off? I’m tempted to start the thread challenging DLs greatness... I like him a lot and think he’s good but have had more than a few disagreements on missed opportunities with him the last 4 years.

YOU GUYS ARE SERIOUSLY CRYING OVER PICK 52 IN THE DRAFT???

We took NWG at 55 last year and now he’s playing in Serbia.

Still bewildered by jazz attitude to second round. Other teams trade to role the second into a future year, or even get 2 for 1.

Because only about 40% of players aren't even drafted in the first round.

Oh, wait.

But all that cash will pay off when we go deep into luxury tax... oh, right.

Yup we pick guys that will take an international job for a year so we don’t pay them.

Look at GS and Houston. They make those picks... trade cash for those guys... because maybe 2-5% become something good or maybe 5-10% become just cheap rotation players.
The cost is minimal... just cash really.

There were dudes like KBD and Melton available late and picks moved and we could have taken them. We can get those guys as unsigned FA in camp but why not take one you really like at 52... cut him later if you don’t like him... sometimes you can tell right away with guys.

Rudy gave his approval of the Grayson pick to quin.

Donovan mitchell told Dennis to draft Grayson. He said he hated pkaying against Allen, but would love to pkay with him.

Other Lindsey cookies....

Gail signed off on a move tonight that would cost significant cash, but it didnt happen.

Donovan and Dennis discussed one other player who Donovan also endorsed.

wut?

edit: oh, must be from a radio interview

Idk why people are panicking. It was a solid (albeit unspectacular) draft in my book. There's a really good chance that Grayson becomes a solid NBA rotation player. If you're getting that at 21 you're doing okay. It was highly unlikely whoever was picked at 52 was going to make the team. I would have preferred a future pick but it's no big deal. I just think people need to breathe. Sky isn1 falling.
