Jazz Free Agency Summer of 2018

As long as the Jazz have a 26 YR old Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert playing and healthy the Jazz are relevant as a contender. But as we see year after year no top tier FA is going to come to Utah. This is the perfect time to go after young players like Hezonja 23 yrs old (SF/PF), Labissiere 22 yrs old (PF) , Bender 20 yrs old (PF/C ) , Chriss 20 yrs old (PF/C) who have major potential and don't stretch the payroll.

Jazz aren't getting better or have a higher ceiling team wise with a Booker (past his prime),Crowder (PF who can't jump or shoot),O Neale (who doesn't have a very high ceiling). If these guys help Jazz get past the 2nd round I'd support them but their not going too.

Not this year. But their improvement this year when added to the splash the Jazz make on 2019 is what will push the team to the next level.

Aside from our wishful thinking the plan was always 2019. It’s been talked about for 2 years.

In light of that isn’t making the players we will carry into that the best they can be the best plan?

When it comes to Favors and this free agency, this is all I think about https://theundefeated.com/features/...-unrestricted-nba-free-agency-for-first-time/:

“I’m just trying to find the right situation that makes sense for me as a player. Be in the right spot. Get a chance to showcase my talent. Get a chance to showcase what I can do. I’m just focused on finding the right situation that is the right fit for me.”

If he wants to come back so badly, why make this comment? If Utah is such a perfect fit for him (according to his comments and various reports), what is he trying to find? Does Utah not make sense? Can he not showcase his talent in Utah? He said fit and situation twice like his current one has not been the right fit or situation.

I might be looking too hard into these comments, but it does seem like he wants a bigger role that this team is not going to give him.

He hasn’t been in the best fit/situation. Let’s be honest about it, at least as playing time/position are concerned. As far as the organization, I think he enjoys the fit. There are certainly cons to returning. Market and other offers/situations (which are drying up) will be a big part of what his decision is.
Agree, oneye. Favors wants a bigger role and a bigger pay day. He may not find that. Or if he does, it's likely for a team that isn't as good. It's a trade-off. But in this market, he may not even get that chance to consider options. So perhaps he signs on a 1yr deal so he can explore free agency next year. He was conservative last time, preferring to extend with Utah instead of becoming a RFA like Hayward. With his history of injuries, I think he's better off taking 4yr deal for about the same amount of money if that's what Utah or another team would offer.

They will have to clear capspace for that one, but damn... this is the type of stuff I thought we need to be doing. Even if it doesn't result in signing a high end FA this year. Try to raise the profile of the team, get meeting with a top tier FA, get other top tier players talking about your team as a legit option.

You want something bad to happen to your favorite team so you can see random anonymous internet posters get upset? You are a strange duck.

fish, didn't literally mean i hope he gets a poison pill offer. Grain of salt mate, i just enjoy the hysteria that goes on sometimes.

I would guess:

Covington, Saric, Philly's 1st in 2019, Philly's 1st in 2021 and Miami's 1st in 2021.

If San Antonio gets that, they are making out like bandits.

Sounds good to me. Philly likely won't be bad for a long time with Simmons and Embiid anyway.

If LeBron can give the guarantee to join if Kawhi's traded there, then you make that deal.

It's a good haul if that went down. But I'm wondering if Philly is pulling an LA and trying to find another pick to include rather than two of their own. Spurs likely weren't specific as to who's pick it is.

Lebron and Kawai both landing in the east is the best possible scenario for the Jazz and all other western conference teams. I hope philly is able to pull it off.

I would actually be happier if this happens than us getting someone like Paul George... not having to go through LeBron and Kawhi would be such a boon for us.

If this Kawhi to PHI trade goes down, what a boon it would be for the Jazz. The Western conference gets MUCH weaker.
Only one team. And I think we're better than SA anyway. Houston took a big hit with losing Ariza. I don't think they're a 65-win team next season. Utah could be the 2nd best team. We'll see.

LeBron and Kawhi in the east would be much better for the balance of power in the league
Sure NBA wants a team in the east that could challenge Warriors, Rockets, etc

The comment about Green, Simmons and Mirotic was for last year. We chose Thabo, Udoh and Jerekbo over those options who cost a little bit more but have higher ceilings.

You could be right about Booker.

Like I said before, I'm okay with Favors, Exum and Hezonja. I just want a Hezonja type player since there are a bunch of young guys with potential we can get with our MLE.
The Hayward offer tied up his max money until he announced his decision. By then, most of FA market had dried up, leaving DL to work with the leftovers.

But don't let facts get in the way … keep on bitchin.
